What is handscoring?

What does it do? I had a really bad eraser when i took the sat, so when i erased the answer it smeared a little bit. I was sure i only missed one in math, but i was shocked when i only got a 730. If i do a hand score, will they see that i put the right answer and give me back the points?? Please help

bump.........

Waht I was told was that they put a template over your scantron sheet, and what shows up as the right answer is what is credited. If it is wrong, then they will adjust it.

Samiamy has the concept down. They take your original answer sheet and a transparency of what the machine "read" (how the machine saw & scored your sheet).

If the answer sheet is on the ball (everything lines up), they take your $50 and do nothing.

If you used a #3 pencil, or you shaded everything "one off" (answer for #2 is in #1 spot on answer sheet, answer for #3 is in #2 spot on answer sheet, etc.), or any other easy errors that are your fault, the CB takes your money and does nothing.

If the machine made an error (either in your favor or against you), they give you the $50 and adjust your score up/down. This is not reversible.

730 is...two or three questions wrong on the math section, I believe. If you are absolutely sure, gamble the $50, you'll probably be right.

As far as incomplete erasures/smudges, you could argue that it happened while in the proctors hands, during shpping, or at the CB, but you probably wouldn't be able to beat them. Rules were made to be broken, though. I had a friend who took it with a #3 pencil and they handscored his SAT, for free, without asking (even though it's actually against the rules- they can cancel your test if you take it with a #3 pencil, which takes more pressure to get the same darkness mark). So, you could try- certain errors on your part might not be detected.

i just think your ego's influencing the situation a bit..

"What is handscoring?"

Lol .. it's kind of self-explanatory, especially for someone who was just SHOCKED with a 730 ..
