I was admitted to Harvard EA and my family and I have applied for financial aid, however it sadly seems like we didn’t get any. The my.harvard.edu Financial Services award letter says “you do not qualify for our need-based scholarship assistance (assuming scholarship assistance=financial aid)”
However, on the same page it says that the Financial Aid Office has a $3000 “Term-Time Work Expectation.”
Is this like a work-study program? And why is there a work expectation when I wasn’t offered any aid (other than a “Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan”)?
I was going to write a fuller explanation but Harvard already has one. You don’t have to work if your family will pay that portion of your expenses instead. But often a p/t job is beneficial. My dd did paid work helping profs. https://college.harvard.edu/sites/default/files/about_your_award.pdf
Right, if you have enough money for your expenses then you don’t need a job or you can take a student loan. If you want the extra money or experience then you look for something. Not required.
