How is trinity academically and socially? How are the dorms? Is the food good?
As a current student, I will tell you the truth about all these things.
People can disagree with me, but here is my opinion.
Academically the school is fine. You can challenge yourself or take a very easy road class wise. Although I haven’t learned much that will help me in the long run.
Socially the school needs help. There are two sides of the spectrum: one- you’re addicted to cocaine and drink from 8am to 8am. second- you trade Pokemon cards and paint murals in Hartford- nothing in between. It’s hard to fit in at Trinity unless you are the type (AKA you don’t really care about your life and drink until you black out).
The dorms are pretty nasty, but if you’re lucky you’ll get a single with a common room or you’ll live in the Crescent Houses. The food is awful. The main dining hall, “Mather”, is known for giving people horrible indigestion.
The people who love Trinity put up with it, but I’ve found the people who love Trinity are all the EXACT SAME PERSON. Be careful if you come here. If you are the type, have fun! If you are not, get ready for a world of unhappiness and judgement.
I am so sorry to hear this OP. We visited Trinity last spring and the tour guide and student interviewer were very nice and welcoming. The tour guide was not preppy and down to earth and chatted with us about her abroad experience. My D asked about the culture and it was acknowledged by them that there is a frat presence but can also be avoided by finding your tribe through activities/interests. But if you need to transfer then that may be best. Good luck.
Sorry, meant to write in the comment in the other thread.
The thing is eam747 is not lying they really aren’t and you guys are getting butthurt about it. The only alternatives are the Mill (more drinking and smoking), the FRED (very cliquey a serial rapist lives there). When you get to your sophomore year you can join a sorority or frat but more over privileged people that don’t even know what they’re talking about more drinking and smoking. There is a feminist sorority but they’re barely talked about I think theyre nice though. Be careful if you come I’ll give you his name and show it to you so you can be careful. Be annoyed at Trinity spending and spending but not knowing what to do with themselves. Administration clusterfuck but that’s most colleges. Just come to Trinity with no expectations but with every college come with no expectations. If you’re a minority I would say don’t come but that’s not fair for us and it’s hard for every “elite” college that houses white upper class students. So I won’t say that but be prepared. Of course the tour guide is going to tell you things they want your money and they’re trying to do their job. No self respecting tour guide is going to tell you the truth my friend is a tour guide hates it, dean’s list public policy major but she needs the money so she sells the college. Look eam747 really is not lying freshman year is usually hell for first years but Trinity’s environment doesn’t make it any easier. I thought you guys would want an accurate portrayal of Trinity not a fluffy bunny type of image of it. College isn’t easy or perfect and like most colleges Trinity is one of them.
You guys might not like the truth but don’t ask for it then. It’s hard to find your group I found mine but some people never will and transfer because not having a group to band together and trying to go through Trinity is alone is hell it really is.
Look I have no skin in this game. I don’t give a damn about Trinity and frankly I’m not super enthused about the area. My D is a soccer recruit looking at several schools, Trinity included. Unlike you, wherever she goes, she won’t need to be an alcoholic or put a needle in her arm (that was one of the more ridiculous comments) to have a social life. Do you realize how ridiculous those comment are?
I’ve been to college and law school, and more importantly I’ve been in the real world for a good long while. I’m also a parent of three college aged kids.
Ok? I don’t drink and never have and don’t do drugs. Just saying it’s not a super great environment. Congrats to your kid though! I’m pretty much poor with a capital P and Trinity gave me the best financial aid(I applied to a lot of 100% need schools). Your kid is lucky to have more options that’s nice!
