I’ve been looking online at Ithaca college and so far I love it. Unfortunately I will not be able to visit for a while. I’ve done a pretty good amount of research on Ithaca but if you guys have any first hand experience from the school that would be great! I plan on majoring in Art education so if anyone is majoring in that or in the art field I would love to know a bit more about it.
I would also just love to know some things about the atmosphere, what the town it’s in is like, dorms, classes, etc. I understand that the school is on the harder side to get into. I’m a bit nervous about my SAT score, on the new SAT’s I got a 1130, I’m retaking it though so it will hopefully go up. My GPA is a 3.7 and I am in multiple clubs such as Stage/ Design crew, National Art honor Society (secretary) and AP art history club. Do you think I would have a decent chance of getting in?
I went to the other college far above Cayuga’s waters in Ithaca, so can’t comment on IC itself. But Ithaca is beautiful in the summer and cold and a little gloomy in the winter. It’s a bit remote, I think you have the stats to get into IC, and may want to consider Cornell with a great Art department, Fine Arts Department and Art Museum (Johnson). You may need to retake the SAT, but I would consider throwing your hat in the ring, if you like Ithaca. IC though is also great!
Allison, I hope you’ll visit Ithaca College when you can - but if it helps, my son is in his second year at Ithaca, and couldn’t be happier - he loves the size of the college, his classes and professors, and other students. Good luck!
I only can comment on the town. My family visited in April, and although my son decided against Cornell (at least for his undergrad studies), we LOVED the town and all said we would be glad to live there!
The natural beauty is stunning. You have the lake, dramatic gorges, and endless waterfalls and hiking trails. If you visit, be sure to work in some of these. We checked out Taughannock Falls (short hike) and Buttermilk Falls (easy access), as well as Cornell’s suspension bridge above the gorge.
The town is charming and bustling, with lots of ethnic restaurants and nice houses, as well as college students everywhere. To us, this seemed a perfect college town.
