My S is applying here. wondering if anyone else is and what you think of the place.

My D has applied to Ithaca, although we haven't visited there yet. If she is accepted, we may be visiting in the early spring. Ithaca has a good reputation and people have said it is located in a nice college town.

My daughter and a friend of hers applied as well. We visited last spring and we all really liked it. The campus is beautiful, the students seem friendly and happy. Everyone in admissions we came in contact with was super helpful. The town is a nice college town with Cornell on the other side of town.
Ithaca is one of 9 schools my D applied to, and it isnt on the top of her list, but it isn't on the bottom either. I have heard that they give very good merit money, so that is a big plus.
Good luck to all!

i applied to ithaca...but i don't know much about it. it's 4 hours away so i didn't visit it. but i heard it gets really cold during the winter and classes aren't cancelled. does anyone know how bad the weather gets?

I don't know how cold it can get. We visited in November and it was very cold. Jacket was definitely needed. The nice thing is that the buildings are connected so that you do not need to go out into the cold as much. It is a very nice area to go to college.

My D is also applying - we haven't visited yet either as we are about 4 hrs away as well but would welcome any feedback from those who have. This is a "middle of the list" school for her - very interested but probably #3 on the list of 8. Had an "artsy" feel to it as well as a wonderful location and smaller size - all which appealed to her.

im a freshman at ithaca so if anyone has any questions, just PM me

I just applied to Ithaca--as my first choice actually. I'm applying as a music major and i had my audition on Saturday, December 10th. I can definately boast about the music program; i heard their wind ensemble on saturday and it was incredible! Over all, it looks like a great school, not too big and not too small. the town of Ithaca has a lot to do and is pretty hip, and on the other hill is cornell which ALWAYS has stuff goin on. I'm really excited about finding out about their decision, even though it's rolling admissions and they give a 4 month span when they could send a response. That's a little nerve-wracking, but it will be worth it. Hope this helped!

Rat- I wholeheartedly agree! I auditioned for the Musical Theater BFA degree on december third, and there music and theater programs are FANTASTIC! Im in love with the place- even their artic like temperatures couldn't keep me away.

Heres to hoping we get are responses sooner then later, and let them be good ones!

My S is also applying. Does anyone know anything about their Track program? I'm sure my S has looked into it already as he wouldn't have applied otherwise. We're about 6 hrs away, so we haven't visited. It's somewhere in the middle for his as well, and not on the top of my list only for the distance. I didn't think it got real cold there, at least not much worse than Mass.

Ithaca has no indoor track. Athletes are bussed to Cornell to use their facility. Ithaca athletes only have access either very early or very late in the day. It was a deal breaker for my DS.

Thanks for the info, My Sweet Babboo. Son seems to think that's similar to what they do now, bussed to Wheaton in the afternoon. Not sure if he'd like doing that early in the am though. He'll look into more.

D applied to Ithaca a few years back for flute performance and loved the school and Music facilities.Unfortunately she and flute studio teacher didnt get along, though the Music school dean tried to intervene.D chose to go elsewhere but LOVED their facilities, ensembles, etc
Momof3Teens..
Ithaca is a wonderful campus if you like modern, non ivy/red brick/limestone/gothic campuses.Nothing is very old as the campus relocated sometime in the 60's I believe (maybe even the 70's).Its on a high hill overlooking the town and Lake Cayuga and the views are just magnificent.Theres one set of dorms, very tall buildings, whose rooms must have the best views!
Transport into town is a bit of an issue..you cant walk into Ithaca. They run buses and lots of kids have cars.
Its a fairly compact campus and it seems you can get from one end to the other w/o much of a problem.
Weather could be an issue..it does get really really cold and snowy and winter lasts a long time if you're not used to it.
I had questions about the dorms...they seemed somewhat ...not exactly neglected but not as up to date or not as high a priority on the administrations scale of amenities as other parts of the campus...but students didnt seem to mind.I also thought the choices of food service/hours of availability were somewhat lacking but that could be because Im used to larger campuses.Faculty members we met seemed happy to be there..I think its a choice location for them to be teaching in.
Overall I thought it was a great campus and would have been a good choice for D.
And the merit $$ situation was excellent,if your child is a candidate for this. They wanted D and tried to match an offer from another institution.

Ithaca has provided me with ennumerable opportunities. Originally USC was my first choice school, but in the end I chose to attend Ithaca and have not been disappointed. The spirit of service on campus is infectous. Students are friendly and easy to get along with. The buildings aren't beautiful, but they are functional and well-maintained. The town is cute - not too big, not TOO small. Cornell offers plenty of fraternity/sorority party life if you are into that and disappointed that Ithaca has none. AND because of Ithaca's size it is easy to get involved in anything you are interested in, and easy to establish relationships with your professors. After one semester I already feel like I could ask many of my professors for recommendations.

If you're looking for top-notch facilities in a smaller, student-oriented institution than IC is the school for you!

I'm a freshman Park Scholar at Ithaca so if anyone has any questions about the school feel free to ask. Also, like cathy said, if you are unhappy with your merit aid, I have heard from some of my friends that Ithaca matched their offers from other schools when they appealed it...so, don't be afraid to see what you can get.

Congratulations to those accepted!

Thank you for taking some questions. If you have any friends in the business school, how do they feel about it? I know a new business school is going to be built. Will this interfere in the business education of current students over the next 2 years?

A LOT of students on campus are business administration students and I have never heard any of my friends who are complain. The building where most business classes are held now is old, but very big and suitable to students needs. There is definitely plenty of technology there, and students will be able to use this building throughout the construction process because the new business school is going to built elsewhere as far as I know.

As an Integrated Marketing Communications student, I will also be taking many business classes (almost half of my requirements are business classes)...and I can say that I feel the department is solid from what I have experienced so far.

Have to insert here that Ithaca has a reputation for great campus dining service food. We spent some time there during a normal period and I have to agree - for college food it was super. Lots of interesting choices and tasty.

Haha, you might think the food is great now...but after a while...

It's okay, but nothing spectacular.
