What is life like at each of the Residential Communities?

I was wondering, for freshmen, what the social life was like at each of the specific residential communities(College in the Woods, Mountainview, Newing, Dickinson, Hinman). Any specifics, both positives and negatives are appreciated. Thank you

I’m a freshman and have only lived in Newing but I’ll try and share what I’ve seen, mostly because I really don’t feel like studying right now:

Newing- The newest dorms, never a bad option to live here. It feels like a hotel sometimes. There’s no suites, only doubles and the occasional triples, so it tends to be pretty social when it comes to knowing your neighbors and stuff. On my floor, everyone leaves their door open a lot, so you get to know people. The dining hall is pretty nice and the only place on campus with a kosher kitchen, if that’s relevant to you. The dining hall is also in this building called C4 with study lounges and a computer station which is really convenient for printing. So yeah, Newing is pretty social. I’m not a partier but a lot of people seem to just go out with people on their floor and stuff.

Dickinson- I feel bad for Dickinson. Everyone makes fun of it because it’s old and dull and probably the least ‘pretty’ of the communities. Still, there’s a nice sense of community there because people are in such tight spaces and they get to bond over how much they dislike Dickinson. It’s really not that bad though, there’s a nice grassy area in the middle and they share the dining hall and those facilities with Newing. Only double rooms here.

Mountainview- Only suites, and they’re really, really nice. I’m considering living here next year but the problem is, it’s so hard to get to. It literally is on a mountain of sorts, and it’s a substantial climb to keep going back and forth (obligatory sidenote: I am a girl with no endurance). I hear from some people that you don’t tend to make friends with the people on your floor, since people generally stay in their suites. Still, you’ll obviously become really close with the people you live with. Their dining hall is really nice looking. The whole place is very shiny and pretty.

CIW- The dorms themselves aren’t too pretty but it has a reputation here for being really ‘chill’. As in, the people are really friendly, you’ll probably find a lot of recreational pot smoking, and it’s an overall nice community. You’re also right in the middle of campus which is nice. The dining hall has a lot of nice options and they have a diner thing upstairs which stays open well past midnight, and they have a grill and milkshakes and tons of snacks there.

Hinman- All the way on the other side of campus (from Newing) so I’m rarely here, but supposedly it’s okay. All I’ve been to is their dining hall which is great because they have an ice cream machine (priorities, man) and a little convenience store. Their suites definitely aren’t as nice as Mountainview. On the plus side, you’re right next to the lecture halls and academic buildings.
