<p>What is college life like for a D1 football player at a big football school? Do they get to go home from holidays like Christmas and breaks like spring break? Do they go to class during the season? Do they have to stay on campus during the summer? Do they have any time for a social life?</p>
<p>I am talking about big time football here, as in schools like Florida, Auburn, Baylor, Clemson, etc where football is king. Does anyone have any insight into the lives of the players?</p>
<p>All varsity athletes will have heavy schedule.
Lifting sessions.
Team Practice sessions.
Team Meetings.</p>
<p>All student athletes must carry full academic loads to be eligible.
So they must go to class, take exams, hand in papers like any other student.
The team will likely require supervised study hall hours where they check in etc.
The athletes must have an acceptable GPA to continue playing.</p>
<p>It is likely that the team members report to campus early before fall term for conditioning etc. In all likelyhood, spring break is used for conditioning. IDK. My student is a varisty athlete and will not have spring break as a “break” as the team has practices 2x a day. </p>
<p>I suggest you go the NCAA clearinghouse info pages and read the recruiting rules and the collegiate rules for football. That should help answer questions about expectations. D1 football is a very big commitment because the student must be not only great on the field, yet also able to handle the academic work in a mature manner.</p>
