I am wondering what is more important for undergraduate students to choose a university, the overall ranking of the university, or the major rankings? For example, the supply chain management of michigan state ranks #2 in the united States, while the supply chain major of university of michigan ranks #7 in the United States. Which university should i go for? University of michigan or michigan state university? the overall ranking of university of michigan is way higher than michigan state. So, is it wise for me to transfer from michigan state to university of michigan for supply chain?

I think if it is an above average school, go for program rankings.
If it was a school of insane caliber, the overall matters more.

My cousin went to UMich because their communications pgrm was one of the best in the country for undergrad.

Good Luck!

I think in the OP's case, there isn't a huge difference between #2 and #7 in any subject ranking in undergraduate teaching so I suppose the University of Michigan might be a better choice, ceteris paribus (cost, personal preference, etc...).

There isn't a huge difference between #2 and #7 in the rankings! We don't have access to the raw figures that were used to make those determinations, but you can just about bet that the difference is something like the difference between 2000001 and 2000061 - in other words, not statistically significant.

Both of these places are very good. Apply to both of them, and if both of them accept you, choose the one that will be less expensive for you to attend.

But, do you guys think that the students in u of m is much better than the students in michigan state?

personally, i think that the journey (i.e. the kind of education/atmosphere) u get during the course of ur studies matters as much. check out the university's college life page and their ideals and see which fit the kind of student life u wanna get. since both are in the top 10 rankings, there isnt much of a difference when considering its academic qualities..

Come to Michigan!

Ok, on a more unbiased note - as has been said, there isn't much of a difference between #2 and #7 so go to whichever school works best for you financially and which you think is a better fit.

If you want to know more about UofM, feel free to PM me. I'm only a freshman here, but I can try and help :)
