What is my chance at top 10 universities?

nyc, as you just said. A 4.0 at public school is not equal to a 4.0 at a prestigious high school, it’s probably not even equal to a 3.5. my school is widely consider to be the lower east side stuyvesant. if you were in NYC, ull know stuyvesant. ranked#12 in the states. if i attend one of the school that locates right next to my house, i can get 4.5+ gpa. and i GUARANTEE YOU that. in Cornell, everything between 90-93 is 97, and abve that idk. dnt give me a crappy convention table that is not official.

Strongly agree with doberhound1.

People: in later posts. please remind us your: grade, school you attend. dnt fake it. be genuine.

thanks man

haha you’re interviewing the people who respond. That is the table, check gpa conversions. You said your school was 64th now you’re saying 12? Which is it?

You only agree with doberhound1 because they’re the only person who hasn’t said you have no shot at Ivies. Your unwillingness to post your actual SAT implies that it was not good enough and you know it.

@ NYC, I don’t like giving chances because they’ll either make you depressed or give you false hope. So pretty much unless someone rolls up with a 2.0 weighted GPA and wants to go to Harvard I’m not going to give a solid answer. By the way, I’m a guy so just use “he.”

oh wow. okay.
what i meant by #12 is that my school is widely deemed as #12 in the city but it is actually ranked #64 in the states. my sat score is 2160. m 800, writing 740. essay 10. reading 620

I want them to post it bcuz people like jayjay, a junior, has nothing but *****s to talk. i want people that are experience. thanx.

if you were put in my school, i am certain, your gpa wont be any higher than me.

no, i want official gpa convention table. ones that ends in .gov, or .edu. google-ing it doesnt make anything official. i can make a website and put it on google if i want to.
nyc2013, u are sure a joke maker. . what are you? 11th grader? or a college student? cuny? suny? state school? ivies? dnt give me advises if you attend schools like cuny hunter. lmaoooo. those people are dumb

WOAH don’t you dare say that people who attend schools like CUNY Hunter are dumb. your grammar is terrible.

“…has nothing but *****s to talk ABOUT”
“i want people that are experienceD”
“your gpa won’t be any higher than MINE”
“i want AN official gpa conVERSION table”
“don’t give me adviCE…”

seriously. i bet there are tons of people who go to schools like CUNY Hunter who have much better grammar.

@mediopollito. my sis came to the states 5 years ago. she got into columbia. she dnest have that much time to help me cuz she needs to work for her tuition. she didnt provide me info for different organizations, research papers, nor tutor me in any subjects. she tell me what should i do. like preping for sat, do good in school. just like any college advisor will do. im pretty sure your mom tells you that too, and your dad will be able to pay you a Princeton private tutor; this is what i meant for resource, families, money. For me, i study on my own 24/7. i have no extra help. i look for my own organizations. i use my resources to the fullest point.

@nyc, my school founded roughly about 5-6 yrs ago. there are only a handful of aps one can take. as of an junior, one can only take 4, max, and there are only 3 people in the entire junior that are taking 4 ap classes. and i am taking 3 (about 10 people take 3 aps) I am not taking AP english becuz I missed the regent last year. i am not taking ap us bcuz my ap calc class is in the same period as ap us. i have tried all my best to take the hardest classes in the school. btw, there are only 4 juniors (including me) in ap calc ab. the rest are seniors and the class size is 11. 1 junior taking bc. and bc class is 6, the rest are seniors. anyone who scored lower than a 95 in math b regent is put in pre-calc. i hope that shows you how competitive my school is.

dnt use 4.65 gpa’s from a sh|ty school to compare to those in my school.

[New Explorations Science Tech and Math School (NEST + M): Best High Schools - USNews.com](http://www.usnews.com/listings/high-schools/new_york/new_explorations_science_tech_and_math_school_nest_m)

So you live in the best school district in NYC. If so, you wouldn’t do much better at the school that is right next to your house…

i’m homeschooled, thanks. i also study on my own 24/7. you’re not as special as you think you are.

“Special circumstances: came to the US 6 yrs ago (by the time I app), first generation that goes to college. Both parents are illiterate.”

first generation to go to college? oh, so your sister is not part of your generation? wow that’s interesting.

Maybe this is just me but how can you claim your school is so competitive when only 4 juniors take AP Calculus AB. I go to an academy at a large public high school, unranked mind you, and we have over 20 kids in Calculus BC, as juniors. I feel like your talking your school way up right now, I don’t know the rigor of your school but from what you have divulged it doesn’t seem like the hardest in the world by any stretch. I don’t want to be offensive or anything but I think you should re-evaluate how much faith you have in your school rigor saving your GPA.

@mediopollito, this thread is about college. if you wanna be a english teacher, please dont comment in this thread.

btw, thanx for your editing. i truly appreciate it.
–> if you havent notice, read the comments above.

@Wei,

Dude, you have to stop assuming that this whole board is some online, WASP community. Many of chances threads that I’m seeing here are made by URMs who are also in need of financial assistance, just because you don’t have private tutors doesn’t mean everyone else here does.

Also, you give off a very elitist attitude, calling kids at CUNY Hunter stupid and saying that they don’t have any place to chance you. I doubt that’s the attitude that admission officers at T10 schools are looking for.

no extra help?! YOU GO TO SCHOOL.

you look for your own organizations?! BIG DEAL, that’s what most people do!
judging from your grammar, your essays probably aren’t that great, and really, that was one of your only hopes for your application to stand out.

everyone uses their resources to their fullest “point.”

i don’t understand why you think you’re so special. stop making excuses about how competitive and “hard” your school is, like everyone else here is saying. just work harder.

ALRIGHT. IF YOU WANT US TO PRAISE YOU AND TELL YOU THAT YOU WILL GET INTO THE TOP 10 UNIVERSITIES, PLEASE TELL US YOUR SCHOOL NAME AND CITY.

Thanks.

PS Cornell Summer School only gives letter grades or pass/fail or unsatisfactory/satisfactory.

@madison90–> its nationally ranked. please read carefully. lmao, you made my day.

mediopollito–> i wonder if you have a teacher. i wonder who teaches you. if you do have a teacher/s, i wonder how much do you pay him/her/them. i wonder what you do for sat prep. i wonder how much your parents make. + you are out of the conversation cuz u dnt even know the public school system.

TheWikiMan–> there are 40+ people taking pre-calc, half of the grade taking calc, they were all in my math b class. if they did well in the regent, they could have got into ap calc. for most of the school, if one passes 85/80 in math b regent’s exam(standard varies) they can get into ap calc. but my school is 95. please read previous comments. abt 80% of people in my ap physics class failed regular ap physics test. that doesnt meant we are all dumb, it only means the test is super hard.

im not trying to say that I am a good candidate for top 10 schools nor any of those schools are my safety.

i am just mad because some people are ALWAYS TRYING TO SAY applying to college is only black and white. GPA and SAT. omg, IT IS NOT

If your school is really hard and you would probably get a 100/100 at a regular school, why do you have a 2100 SAT?

@mediopollito, definitely not EVERYONE everyone uses their resources to their fullest “point.”
look into previous comments for what did i mean for extra help

i only recently started to homeschool. i’ve been in the american public school system much longer than you have, since you came here only about 6 years ago (if that’s true).

you’re right, the gpa and sat are not black and white. but the recommendations, essays, and ECs have to be excellent if your grades/SAT scores are not up to par. from what you’ve given us, your ECs are average, and like i said before, no offense, your essays probably aren’t that good. so there’s nothing that stands out about you.

the GPA is the most important thing. the SAT is not as important, you’re right, but you must be OUTSTANDING in other areas if you want colleges to look at your application “holistically.” they want students who are unique and can contribute to their community because great students make great alumni.
