What is Pre-Chemistry? And is this a good major at UCSB?

Recently, I got accepted into UCSB. Originally, I applied to Chemical Engineering, but due to the # of applicants and such, I got in under College of Letters and Science with Pre-Chem. I actually really like the school itself, that’s why I want to know more about the major b4 I accept their offer. And if anything, can I switch my major back to chemical engineering later on? Thanks

Here is information on changing to the Chemical Engineering major: https://chemengr.ucsb.edu/undergraduate/change-major

Here is information regarding the Pre-Chem major. You need to take the course requirements and maintain a minimum GPA to declare the Chem Major.

But what is Pre-Chem exactly? @Gumbymom thanks

Pre-Chem is just a Pre-major designation that means you are not a Full Chemistry major until you complete the required courses with a 2.0 to declare the major. If you do not meet the requirements for the Pre-major, then you cannot complete your Chemistry degree by taking the rest of the Chemistry major courses.

Pre-Major courses and units:

Chemistry 1A or 2A, 1B or 2B, 1C or 2C- 9 units
Chemistry 1AL, 1BL or 2BC, 1CL or 2CC - 6 units
Chemistry 6AL, 6BL (or 6BH) - 6 units
Chemistry 109A or 109AH, 109B or 109BH, 109C or 109CH - 12 units
Math 3A-B, 4A -12 units
Physics 1-2-3-4 - 14 units

If you want to be an engineer and got in to any college for their engineering program then you ought to go there. It is very difficult to change into engineering from the college of letters and science at UCSB. You should call the engineering office and ask how many students try to do this, how many were accepted, and what was their GPA.

I got into Cal Poly Slo with computer Engineering and davis and Irvine with chemical Engineering, where do you think I should go, at this point, I have no preferences. @mikemac

llovefood2000, Those are all good schools, but what is your passion, Chem E or Comp E? That should help make the decision easier.

@EV2017 I like them both equally. I can see myself either as a CompE or ChemE
