What is requisite course for LS 192A?

LIFESCI 192A. UNDERGRADUATE PRACTICUM IN LIFE SCIENCES
Course Description: Seminar, two hours. Requisite: course 2 or 3

What is 2 or 3?

Probably LS2/3

I heard about this when I took LS23L, because the UG assistants that help out the TA during each lab are part of the program (you have to apply, I think the deadline is a couple weeks before the start of each quarter. They ask you whether you’ve taken LS1, 2, 3, and 4, and at the very least you should have taken 2 or 3). It seems like a lot of fun, your duties consist of answering questions students have during the lab session, setting up and running procedures (agarose gels, spectrophotometry, etc.), and occasionally presenting Powerpoints/mini-lessons on topics like PCR. I would have applied, except I believe you have to leave Friday afternoons free to attend the seminar class. I only saw the professor (Pfluegl) once during the quarter since you watch all the 23L lectures online, but my TA for 23L who also teaches 192A is awesome, thumbs up for Catherine

Is the selection very competitive? I noticed only LS grades are asked, not GPA.

There is a waitlist, but I feel most people are accepted and rarely outright rejected. As long as you did decent in either LS2 or LS3 (B or higher) and you write good responses to the open-ended questions you’ll be in the mix
