My brother thinks he wants to go to salsbury because he did have a great interview and really liked the baseball coach. But, what is it really like?

My cousin went to salisbury, he said it's a huge party school.. but it's a lot of fun ...they are strong athletically, but not quite academically. but gorgeous campus like hotchkiss, in the middle of nowhere.....
My cousin was really happy during his years at salisbury

Whenever we play salisbury, we chant "Safety school ! Safety school!"

How kind of you to chant that phrase.

lol our official taft day t-shirt theme last year was "safety school" too XD

filmalife -- There was a parent who used to post on this board. If I remember correctly, his/her son went to Salisbury and is now at Cornell. If you do search this board for "Salisbury," you will probably find his/her name. You might pm this parent with questions.

bearcats -- I can understand why Andover and Exeter and other comparable rival schools taunt each other with "Safety School." However, I think it is very poor sportsmanship for Hotchkiss students to taunt Salisbury students that way.

Ditto, Burb Parent re the poor sportsmanship, and I would go further and say that that kind of behavior shows a complete lack of class. Not exactly the kind of behavior you would want if you were trying to educate young people in the best way possible.

And, Bearcats, you may think I was trying to be funny when I said "how kind of you....," but I was being sarcastic.

oh...they stink bomb our bus..i think it's acceptable, since by the end of the day, we pranked them, they pranked us, we all go home with a lot to laugh about, and the school gets closer , and plan what pranks we gonna pull next time we meet ..it's more about the fun...we didnt say "safety school" in the malicious sense, but about the rivalry that we have (taft is our official rival, salisbury is five minutes away from us)

"And, Bearcats, you may think I was trying to be funny when I said "how kind of you....," but I was being sarcastic"

and yes i know....

p.s..u know what schools usually say when they play hotchkiss?
"MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!!!! MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!!!!"

uh..man i think it's just you..we do safety school to taft but i never heard safety school at salisbury lol....it doesnt make sense to do it to them...oh maybe except for that time we were so mad coz they stinked bomb our buses....

^^^

Isn't Taft way more competitive than Salisbury?

My idea is, Taft is only a notch lower than us academically, prestigewise and in terms of selectivity. Calling them safety school is more like a joke.. but to Salisbury, which is like tiers below us (whether it's a good fit is another question), at least in most people's eyes, calling them safety school would be an insult, not funny anymore

My guess is Salisbury guys can handle it, since they usually eat 'Kiss lunch in sports.

i dun think so lol

who beat salisbury hockey twice this year?? Hotchkiss

what were they saying the first time we beat them?? A fluke?? LOL

Like someone said, comparing Hotchkiss and Taft is different than comparing it with Salisbury - just like it's acceptable to chant to Yale at Harvard games "Safety School" rather than Harvard chanting to Cornell.

that's a bad analogy, hotchkiss and taft is probably like columbia or Dartmouth (Hotchkiss) vs Johns Hopkins (Taft)....... both good schools, but different levels XD

I dont see the bad thing about harvard chanting safety school to cornell ...cornell isnt that bad....

I'm saying that Harvard and Yale are so close you can hardly differentiate between them, much like Hotchkiss/Taft. Not same level of caliber.

Cornell is probably on the bottom level of the Ivies, so it would be considered a safety school and would be more truthful than calling Yale that. However, I agree that Cornell is a very hard school to get into and would not be considered a safety school. But I don't know any other colleges that would play against Harvard (because Ivy League plays against each other) that is "not as great".

"I'm saying that Harvard and Yale are so close you can hardly differentiate between them, much like Hotchkiss/Taft"
i take that as an insult

Even the blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in a while...

Oh, for the love of god.

All of this chanting is sophomoric; at my school we're sent to DC for that kind of nonsense.

It doesn't matter which one of the top schools you get into (meaning 20% acceptance or lower) because it counts against you for college IN ANY CASE. I was accepted to Taft, Suffield, HK etc, but went to the school I liked best (Westover, 2006 stats: 22%). Choose according to what you think you will enjoy for four years, not what people chant on the pitch.

iriseyes -- Congratulations on finding a school that you love and is the right fit for you! Many applicants seem to put more weight on prestige than fit. I'm glad you were able to make the distinction. I visited Westover once, and it is a great school with wonderful facilities.

Sometimes I am too much of a stickler for accuracy, so please don't be offended. I don't know the numbers for Westover's acceptance rate for 2006. However, in Peterson's for the class entering the fall of 2005, 192 students applied, 118 were accepted and 63 enrolled. Sometimes schools write things like "192 students applied for 63 spots," which might lead the reader to believe that the acceptance rate is 33%. But not everyone who is accepted enrolls there. At any rate, I added that in the interest of accuracy, so I hope you understand.
