What is Sorority "rushing"?

I've been talking to some friends who are in a Sorority and they told me I should go attend the "rush." I have NO clue what that means - What exactly is the "rush"?

I'm only an incoming freshman - Is it worth joining a Sorority? Are there any benefits to joining one?

It’s a recruitment period. Engaging in a sorority’s rush would mean that you are trying to get in on that sorority

Is there any benefits? Of course, you make friends! Do it!

It probably differs per school. At Case, women go through formal recruitment, as opposed to “rushing” like the guys.

Probably differs school to school, but in your case I would think that it’s a period of time where freshmen visit various sororities/fraternities, attend events, and some even decide to pledge a sorority/fraternity of their choice.

Definitely get out there, even if you’re not interested in greek life! You’ll meet other curious freshmen and other friends. :)
