I know it says roughly $24,000 a year for undergraduates on the UCI website but is it really accurate? I've talked to a couple of friends at UCI and they say it only costs them about $18,000-20,000. Any info on this?

My roughly estimate was around 24,995. But I’d like to know as well.

prolly cuz misc expenses vary from person to person and they put the cost on the high end just in case XD

Here’s a link to the ESTIMATED BUDGETS FOR 2009-10 Undergraduate Students

For nonresidents of California, add $21,669** Nonresident Tuition and Fees to the costs below.

Undergraduate Living at Home
$19,202.50

Undergraduate Living on Campus
$24,930.50

Undergraduate Living Off-Campus (Including Vista Del Campo)
$24,930.50

MaMoose on this forum said that his “son hasn’t needed $1850 for personal expenses, nor $1950 for travel; his books were closer to half their $1645 estimate. But the costs for Tuition, Fees, and Dorm (Room and Board) are pretty solid”

I guess to be technically correct, I should say “if my son needed $1850 for personal expenses, he did a good job of hiding it from his dad and me.” ;-)
