Cornell (Human Ecology)- slight reach
Emory- slight reach
BC- match
Colgate- safe match

bucknell would be the safest of your 'backups,' but all schools listed are very competitive to get into and i'd call them matches more than safeties (colby, michigan oos, trinity)
i'd maybe add union as a better safety- similar to trinity and bucknell but much easier admissions.

and ckmets- why do you have bc as a match yet colgate as a safe match?

3 people from my school got into colgate and waitlisted/rejected at BC this year. It is slightly easier, though the student profiles at the two schools are remarkably similar (i think BC has slightly higher SAT averages)

I think you're competitive for all these schools, with BC and Colgate being MATCH to weak MATCH for you. Emory is a weak MATCH to slight REACH. Cornel is a slight REACH.

For Emory, to maximize your chances, you will want to demonstrate interest by doing an official campus tour, attending one of their fall regional visits by admissions counselors, and/or ordering the DVD/video from their website. Further, they consider "very important" your essays, teacher recommendations and EC's. Your EC's don't stand out -- will you be able to convey a bit more luster to them? I assume by your weighted GPA that you've challenged yourself with academic rigor. Also, regarding your stats for Emory... your SAT CR score of 650 places you at about 30-35th percentile of enrolling freshmen; your Math score of 760 is above 75th percentile, though. About 90% of the enrolled freshmen were ranked in the top 10% of their graduating H.S. classes.

Yea thanks Norcal...I'm in the top 10%, I've visited Emory, and my essay will be very good-- it will tie in my volunteering at a camp for disabled, which is something that has made a big impression on me

Stillmanz,

Your volunteer work at the camp for disabled and some of your other volunteer activities present a commonality in theme that I think would be an excellent platform for a meaningful personal essay. In looking at your EC's again, it seems that the way you've presented them just doesn't say much about you. You can help yourself by making sure that any mention of your EC's on your apps is accompanied by some kind of accomplishment or meaningful impact on you or others. If you have had an official tour/visit of Emory, that will serve as "demonstrated interest" to them -- they've made it evidently clear that they like applicants who like them. Emory has the advantage of affiliation with the Carter Center, which may be a good influence for you as well. Good luck!

Thanks for telling me about that. I just looked at the website and it sounds like something I would be interested in.
