What is the best college to get a B.A. in Economics?

I've been looking at colleges that are good with Economics and I've found several colleges such as MIT, Harvard, UChicago, Yale.

But the thing is, I was interested in Yale. So, I did some research in Yale University. I had searched them up in Wikipedia and I found some really really famous alumnis like Hilary Clinton, George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, Stephen A. Schwarzman, and many others. So I went to do more research on Yale University, I'd went to Yale- Class of 2014's page(in Facebook) and I found out almost the whole page was filled with inappropriate comments( including vulger words, etc.) That made me think that Yale is for spoiled brats. Is this true, because I compared Harvard's "Class of 2014" page(in Facebook) and Yale's "Class of 2014" page(in Facebook). Yale is just like, so messed up.

Then I thought about looking at MIT, it is listed as one of the best colleges for economics but MIT is like best for Mechanical Engineering. Usually many people go to MIT for Mechanical Engineering. That's why I thought it didn't concentrate much in Economics.

I know Harvard is the best in everything, so it is in Economics. I didn't want to go to Harvard.

I have heard much from UChicago that it has one of the best Economics department in the world but I didn't like UChicago that much because it isn't a Ivy League university neither it's a HPYSM(the all-time top 5 universities).

I thought Princeton would be good too, but I don't hear much from Princeton. It's like a completely silent university.

So guys please tell me some good universities for getting a BA in Economics. Thanks

Yale College? Hillary Clinton? Really?

What a pithy conclusion from your solid research. Please, do yourself a favor and don’t apply to Yale.

Has it ever occurred to you that college application is a two-way process?

Good luck.

The page you saw is an unofficial Yale page that was taken over by people who aren’t actually going to Yale. There is another official closed group for people who have actually been admitted.

For reference:

THIS is the real Yale 2014 group: <a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook;

and THIS is the page you were looking at (WARNING: seriously inappropriate NSFW language) Redirecting...;

You don’t want to go to Chicago because… it’s not ivy league?

That almost made me gag. UChicago’s Economics department has been more or less been the world’s most influential for decades. Do you know how juvenile you sound? With that kind of attitude I question your chances at all of the universities you have mentioned.

@stressd, ok, I agree. I’ve also seen Yale’s " Official Class of 2013" page and it has been written that “we are sexy”!? I mean how can such a well-educated student say that?

hellosup, if you are judging colleges on the basis of individual entries on facebook, then YOU are acting every bit as immature as the students who wrote “we are sexy.”

Based on your comments here on this thread, you have a lot of growing up to do.

Seriously, Chicago = not a good school for economics, because it’s not HYPSM? ROFL!!! Ever heard of Milton Friedman, Paul Samuelson, Gary Becker, Myron Scholes, Joseph Stiglitz, Edward Prescott, Roger Myerson, Robert Lucas? (Hint: think Nobel Prize in Economics)

I just LOLed at all of hellosup’s comments.

hellosup – why have you been “looking at colleges that are good with economics”?

Based mainly on academic prestige and academic quality:

Harvard
MIT, Princeton, Chicago
Stanford, UC Berkeley
Yale
Michigan, Northwestern, NYU, Columbia, UPenn
Brown
UCLA

There are many other schools that are easily on par with those, like Princeton, Stanford and Columbia.

If you seriously believed those impostors that easily, please don’t come to Yale. Didn’t it ever occur to you to at least check their profile pages? Guess what, some of them are even in the Class of 2012 for another college… In fact, the group’s creator himself is a “profile” that has only 5 pages, “Yale 2014” in various forms(all of which he created.) So it’s a REALLY obvious prank, please…

When comparing great schools, ESPECIALLY for the undergraduate level, checking alumni is basically useless. All of the top 20-30 schools have great alumni that will make your jaw drop. Plus, what does Hillary Clinton has to do with B.A. Economics?(She’s a law school graduate…)

What about electrical engineering, or computer science? Or is MIT just a mechanical engineering school now?
Plus, MIT has one of the best(not Top 10 or whatever, one of the BEST) business schools in the country. True story.(Barney Stinson anybody? :P)

No, Harvard isn’t best in everything, not even close. I just chose Yale over Harvard, and I’ll be majoring in econ. True story.
I’m not saying Yale’s better, it was just the place where I thought I’d enjoy to attend the most. Saying Harvard is the best is rather ignorant.

Stanford isn’t an Ivy League, and Duke isn’t a part of your HPYSM. So?
Have a look at what UChicago is for economics: [Chicago school of economics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Chicago school of economics - Wikipedia)

Just my 2 cents…

Wow I enjoyed this! :D

You say you didn’t like UChicago that much because it isn’t a Ivy League university.

I agree with your way of thinking. Here’s a suggestion. Apply to JUST the Ivy League … please… do that…see how the admission results work out for you.
