D got into McGill but has not visited the campus. Can you tell us what the physical campus is like?

I'm actually in Montreal right now and I did a downtown campus tour this afternoon.
I haven't visited any other college campuses (though I live next to UC Irvine, and I know that campus), so I'm no expert. To me, the downtown campus wasn't overwhelmingly huge. There's a concentration of buildings and then a few buildings are scattered around the corners. (If you look at the DT campus map, you'll know wat i mean.) There's this grass area right in the middle and students were playing football and what not when I was there. Students were also chillaxing on the stairs that lead up to buildings. It kinda annoyed me that Gothic buildings were right next to modern buildings, but that was just me being anal.
In terms of the campus flora, there wasn't much. It was mostly brown with a slight bit of green here and there, but since MTL is just getting into spring, grass and flowers are yet to come.
A lot of the buildings have a downstairs area, and being from California, I wasn't used to seeing that. My tourguide also said that there are some underground passages that link some of the buildings which are really nice to use during the winter, but we didn't go see them.
So yea, I hope that helps.

i thought it was pretty unorganized and maybe even ugly..

Izabelle, if having Gothic buildings next to modern buildings annoys you, Montreal is not a good city for you, as you can see.

It is BEAUTIFUL! I visited McGill right after I made a stop at Carleton and there is just no comparison. Carleton looked like a cluster of factories and prisons. It actually made me quite depressed. But McGill put a smile on my face...literally. You should visit it yourself because it seems that opinions vary. So you may not agree with any of us.

The campus is the most magical and godly place I have EVER been. It is so beautiful that I cried when I went the first time (and that's not even being dramatic.) I'll put it to you this way: If you've ever been to Disney, think of Cinderella's Castle. Think of Cinderella's Castle on steroids. Now picture gothic dorms and then a huuuuge city right in front of it. That's McGill! Plain and simple, pretty and inexpensive.

The campus is amazing! Sure, there is a mix of old and new buildings...but I think they look fine together. Considering the price of the school, the campus is beautiful. My favorite part of it is that it manages to have a nice college campus feeling with the whole city of Montreal outside its gates!

To get a sense of what the campus / buildings are like. The shell is late 19th century, very turn of the century architecture. Personally, I think it's awesome. I have one class in Birks religion building, which is also a church, and I hear the church bells ring on my thursday morning classes. Each building is special in its own way. However, even though the outsides look old there is state of the art computing inside every building (especially engineering, and redpath), and TV screens everywhere. It really is an awesome experience having the old outside but new inside. I wouldn't call anything about the campus ugly. The "oldness" is part of what makes this campus so special.
