What is the Job Title of someone who finds cures or creates medication for diseases like cancer? I really dont want to go into pharmaceuticals. Is there a branch of Oncology that deals with this? What would I major in college? Would I need to get a MD or a PhD?

One possible job title is “immunologist” which is a general title for someone who studies how the body fights disease. You would specialize in cancer immunology. You would do best with a PhD if research is your interest, or a joint MD/PhD. As an undergraduate, you would probably major in biology, genetics, or biochemistry.

If you want to be a doctor and treat patients with cancer, then go for an MD.

If you want to be a researcher who researches cancer (or possible treatments for cancer), then get a PhD.

Majoring in biology (or some field of biology) would be helpful, if you’re planning on a career in biology.
