“The only way to address societal-wide problems -such as war, racism, and climate change- is with a collective effort. We don’t have a collective effort because we don’t value individual efforts. This is our greatest challenge - not in that we fall and suffer, but in that we do not rise up again when we fall.”

“I said worldwide poverty and closing the widening income gap between the wealthy and the impoverished.”

I did a double-take when I saw that… my answer was so similar (“widening socioeconomic gaps, especially in the developing world”). Such a coincidence!

“Our society is dominated with the idea that ‘because things ARE this way, they SHOULD be this way’. Society should strive for improvement rather than stagnancy. Our challenge is to search for truth and possibility, and end the fabrication of false generalizations and assumptions about human nature.”

Does it make sense? I’m not sure if I conveyed what I wanted to say. :-/

Eiffel, that was BEAUTIFUL:)! I for one completely understand what you are saying!

Now I kind of wish I went with something a bit more serious! Seeing as there are so many serious problems with the world, this probably wasn’t the best place to be “witty.” :(:(

The most significant challenge facing our society is sleep deprivation. Caffeine has fueled the efficient modern world, but its use has caused problems that we are just now realizing. Humans can’t function without 8 hours of sleep, but societal demands drive people to forgo more and more sleep.

" I talked about an incident of my pregnant aunt. how a pregnant woman stands on a subway train and all we see is blank stares, faces hidden behind newspapers: ignorance…restoring chivalry and courteous values in our society is indeed a great challenge. "

What a beautiful, poetic answer.

Here’s mine, verbatim:

Ignorance. “I’ll live my own life” is too easy a life to live. Apathy will prevent people from founding service organizations, taking a stand against political oppressors, ending wars against famine and religious “enemies,” and ultimately expressing a love for people and life.

"The most significant challenge facing our society is sleep deprivation. Caffeine has fueled the efficient modern world, but its use has caused problems that we are just now realizing. Humans can’t function without 8 hours of sleep, but societal demands drive people to forgo more and more sleep. "

^ I sleep 3-5 hours every night.

I wrote about peer pressure & people giving in so easily to drugs, alcohol, etc. as if they had no free will

Abortion. The African-American community has aborted over a third of their people since Roe v. Wade, and other ethnic groups are well on their way to that percentage. If we kill off our own children, how can we survive as a society?

I put the lack of education and its inequality among people of different social classes as the most significant challenge society faces today. I also explained how the world would be much different if people were adequately educated since we have lost millions of potential bright minds as they are not given the chance. Not sure if that’s convincing enough, but I really believe in it.
