@Eiffel… Wow, I really like that. So serious, yet so well written!
@fencersmother. Abortion might be touchy but I like the way you put it. Such a good Q?

oh oops. I meant “so true” to what funnyfunjabi said…

Thanks so much, MirrorImage! :)

I said it was the difficulty of finding decent dark chocolate ice cream in most ice cream shops. Since I got in, I assume someone in admissions concurs.

Skywriter, in mine I said it was the gradual disappearance of Belgian Chocolate Chocolate ice cream from Haagan-Dazs stores accross the nation.

It’s not the dark chocolate ice cream to end all dark chocolate ice cream, but I think it is the best widely available flavor. Or at least, it was. Here’s to hoping Stanford has some good options…

i talked about today’s youth spending more and more time inside rather than going outside to have run. I figured it fit, since my commonapp essay was how i love to go outside, lay down, and just think…

As technology advances, kids are increasingly choosing to stay indoors rather than go outdoors to have fun. This imbalance leads to an unhealthy lifestyle and lessens an appreciation and respect for nature; some activities, like fishing, are not meant to be experienced from in front of a screen.

^Ahem, Wii Fishing begs to differ

^ LMAO… I can’t stand the Wii. When they were first advertising the product, i thought that the Wii mimicked the natural movements of humans. I was sadly mistaken. My little sister wrecks me in Wii Tennis with a quick flick of her wrist while I struggle to keep up with my “proper technique.” And yet, sadly, as soon as we take tennis outdoors, she can’t even return a soft volley. I try to get her outside the house as much as possible, but she lives in a different age. She grew up knowing how to use a computer (5 years younger than me); I didn’t touch one until I was 7.

“The notion that power creates truth. For example, in a 4th grade classroom, students would believe almost anything a teacher says because of the power granted to the teacher based on her clothes, desk, and etc. But if this teacher wore a cap and played recess, she would lose power and thus truth.”

That’s what I stated.

war,for sure,that day will come.

“The loss of subtlety in movies, music and literature. People are not asked to think for themselves; a movie with explosions and Megan Fox will gross over 800 million dollars more than Sin Nombre, an authentic spanish language film about immigration that was favorite movie in 2009.”

yall pwn me. lol

^ I love watching movies in Spanish

obesity and wastefulness in general

I wrote anthropogenic “Climate change. Recognising the immediacy of the threat, acknowledging our responsibility to act, and biting to [omg. TYPO D:] bullet to make changes to our lifestyles. Rethinking what is important in life, what constitutes success, and making a paradigm shift away from consumerism to enough-ism (minimalism).”

I’m just curious, guys. I’m an international. In America, is climate change and sustainability a very dumbed-down issue, in terms of media coverage? Or is it over-exposed to the point of people getting tired discussing it? Or is the credibility of the science still a major factor, and climate skepticism thriving? I thought it was kinda obvious. It’s curious.

Also - what’s the popular feeling on the ground / youths with regard to the Democrats and Obama’s administration? The world is still feeling positively about his election? What happened in MA for Brown to win? and what is with your supreme court giving corporations the power to pour as much money as they want into your federal elections? Someone convince me that that’s not the fastest way to getting corporate interests into the highest level of policy making.

I think someone’s going to tell me off for going way out of point. Ah well I guess I’m really asking for it. Anyone, PM me please if you have insights. Much thanks, peace!

Climate change is a very controversial issue in the states. Some people don’t believe in it…I don’t really know what their argument is. Luckily Stanford is a very ‘green’ college and the adcom will probably appreciate your concern for the environment.

energy policy/climate change…seems to be a popular choice for this question…haha too bad I chose that one too.

lol @arrrrr you just copied from http://wiselikeus.com/collegewise/2009/11/stanford-university.html
I talked about language extinction, since it relates to what I want to study in college. I hope not choosing a “heavier” or more pressing issue like climate change/allotment of resources won’t count against me.
I gave up on my Stanford application because I wouldn’t attend, but I wrote about obesity. Food is really the root of everything, and if we all ate less fast food and exercised more, we can almost guarantee that cancer, heart disease, diabetes rates, and BMIs would go down.
@Ambitious19 I would be interested in reading your language extinction essay! That’s a really fascinating topic to me. I’m interested in linguistics too – I want to study French in college.
