I have not decided about my intended major yet, I am just wondering what is the most valuable AP for an Ivy applicant? so if I want to apply to Yale, what AP subjucts I should take? thank you!

The Ivies want to see the AP courses you do well in. AKA the subjects you are passionate about and will enjoy.

Take the ones YOU want. It’ll be a more enjoyable year for you, and it’ll still impress Ivies.

thank you, I am not so interested in APUSH, but it seems that everyone has to take it if they want to go to ivies…I am really interested in taking English literature and languange instead…

Then do so! APUSH is a common AP course but if you don’t want to take it, don’t feel obligated. I didn’t take APUSH, I took AP Psychology instead because it seemed more interesting. I ended with an A+ and a 5, which wouldn’t have happened in if I took APUSH. While APUSH is perceived as harder, my grade and score pretty much balance it out.

AP Lit and AP Lang are just as rigorous as APUSH, and it’s likely you’ll do better in those two because you enjoy the subject! Nothing sucks more than working super hard in a class you hate and getting a grade lower than what you want. So the classes are just as rigorous, and you’ll have a better grade (if you like it, you’ll be more motivated to learn it) which helps your application even more!

Not Ivy, but at Hopkins, the admissions rep said that they like to see courses where the AP course is the end of a series, such as math, English, sciences and history. He used the term JV AP for the classes like psych, environmental science, etc. Not my words.
