What is the NROTC Scholarship?

@TopTier, I stand corrected on the fact that the Coast Guard being a military service, as well as a security force. I am not sure that constitutes a substantial error, however. The Coast Guard is under Homeland Security, and there are 5 service academies. I would say my posting is substantially correct, with the one factual error that the Coast Guard is a military service as well as being under Homeland Security. The substantive point of my post, that there are only 3 reserve officer training corps branches on college campuses, still holds validity.

I am aware that the Marine Corps has separate representation on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, but was unaware that the Marine Corps had been moved out from under the aegis of the Department of the Navy (if I am understanding you correctly) and is now its own separate uniformed service.

As always, I hope my post was helpful to the OP. I certainly am not trying to spread misinformation.

@ItsJustSchool: The Marine Corps is – and has forever been – an integral part of the Department of the Navy. It is also a separate and distinct military service. Both the Commandant and the CNO both report to the SecNav. The SecNav is the only Service Secretary who directs two military branches.
