What is the number one challenge going to be? Take the poll.

As a student coming from the UK I think that my biggest challenge is going to be adjusting to a very different social world!

For me it’s definitely been adjusting to a different social world. I haven’t had much trouble making friends, but my friends are so very different from the type of people I associated with in high school. I’m from a small town in the midwest, so Miami is practically a different country for me!

Academics…

This poll has been pinned for eight years now. Not a criticism, just thought it was interesting.

Academics, social life, being on my own, rooming with a stranger

Social life is different but easy to adjust to if you meet the right people. School is school. Classes are generally the same rigor just a little but more work. Your brain develops more so what you think will be hard isn’t all that hard once you actually learn it.

Finding new friends

Adjusting with academics… Hard work. In life definitely we need to meet other people and make friendship with them, it is common.

I made some terrible habits in high school and let’s just say there was no opportunity in college to “compensate” the way I did in high school.

absolutely

I chose the vastly different social world you will be encountering, but that obviously depends on what you’re used to.

For me, the social aspect as well as a roommate were difficult.

Everyone says, “You’ll make friends easily because no freshman has friends!” but that’s not the case. Or, you’ll make friends with some people for a few weeks and then they join a fraternity/sorority and you’re suddenly a bottom priority. A lot of people also hung out with “home friends” and wouldn’t really make room for other friends.

Living with a roommate was hard, also. But it really depends on who the person is and what you’re willing to deal with. My first roommate would come into the room at 3am and turn on the lights, shower, watch TV, and blow dry her hair! It drove me insane!

I stayed in-state and only a few hours from home, but I was still very homesick. I think being homesick is something A LOT of freshman struggle with…even if they do not like to admit it.

I voted for adjusting to a different social atmosphere.

Academics… I will no longer be the smartest person in the school :-(.

Doglova: Maybe with that attitude.

Going through the LONG winter for a second year. Reminds me of my dad and the depressing winter of '76 :(

Everything seems daunting lol. It’ll get some getting used to

Social world, though this is largely specific to the pairing of my hometown and college town.

Being first time in college is little bit different.First you have to make friend.
