What is the party scene/social life like at Nova?

Can any current students comment on the party scene/greek life at Nova.

I want to be somewhere where kids have fun... but I don't want social life to revolve solely or even mostly around greek life/drinking/stereotypical college partying. I like to have fun... but I would definitely get sick of just drinking for fun.

Can someone describe their experience(s)?

Thank you so much!

I am a current freshman at Nova. I didnt drink during high school and only recently started after graduating. I thought that everyone drank in college and I would be outcasted or not make friends if I didnt. This is not true at all at Nova. I do drink here, but my best friend doesnt. Every time we have been out at a party together, guys will always say to her you dont drink? she says no and every time their response has been thats cool i respect that. Freshman guys go crazy and are pretty much helpless but the upperclassmen are very respectable. No one here cares if you do or dont drink. People who do drink dont judge people for choosing not to drink, and in return they just ask that you respect that you do drink. As far as exactly what there is to do… frats are always an option on the weekend and then theres a lot of club sports houses. I know a lot of people go into Penn or clubs in philly. Most stay around the area though. theres some stuff on campus especially on west campus at the apartments but everything is mostly off campus. freshman year RAs are kind of strict so there arent many “parties” in the dorms.
hope this helped! any question you can PM me!

Thank you so much! Your response was really helpful. That’s awesome because I’ll drink occasionally, but I’m not a big drinker. I’ll go to parties and I have no problem with people who drink, I’d just much prefer to be buzzed or not drinking at all than to be wasted, ha. It sounds like there’s a lot to do. How have you been finding the freshman experience? And how does the whole roommate selection process work? Do you think nova is good at matching people? I think my tour guide told me it’s all doubles and a couple of triples for freshman. Is this true? Are there any freshman suites?

Thanks so much, again!

I love Nova! im in a double in stanford and even though they have the smallest rooms i absolutely love it. its in the middle of everything and theres so many people here. on the other hand, the smaller dorms like st mos and katharine are so much fun because everyone is SO close. roommates selection asks like 5 questions so its not really in depth. the thing about nova is the majority of people at nova are genuinely nice.like you might think im just saying that but i was honestly amazed. most people you pass will say hi, people will wait and hold the door for you even if youre pretty far away. ive been amazed at how nice people are. with this in mind, most roommate situations work out because people are generally nice people. theres always going to be situations that don’t work out or aren’t exactly the best but its definitely the case for most people. my roommate and i had a lot of problems and wqe had a conference and things are so much better. most are doubles, but theres a good amount fo triples, but theyre still a good size.no freshman suites

Thanks again! You’ve been really helpful! Was nova your first choice school?

no… notre dame was but looking back… notre dame was only because of rankings. nova is a much better school as far as location and balance of social/academic. and im interested in goign greek which notre dame doesnt offer. everything happens for a reason =]

Does VU have options in housing for non-drinkers or “wellness living”? Are other options/activities given on the weekends but parties?

Not that I know of but I mean the dorms aren’t crazy by any means as far as partying. There’s all girls housing but thats all I know of. Theres always movies at the Connelly Center on weekends, and going into Philly is always an option too. I know a lot of people who dont drink but will go to parties just to meet people and they still have a blast. There’s also usually some kind of event going on during the weekends… not necessarily at night but usually during the day so theres always something to do.

notre******bags hahaha

yeahhhh nova. water1234 idk what you’re talking bout your rooms aren’t too small!

debruns it’s not hard to stay healthy if you’re not into that. ppl don’t force you to do anything. but good counsel would be a good bet.
