Move in day will be a day of tears :(

*Leave the house. just realized that i said keave

shortstuff, I thought you were going to be a day student?

i wish i knew…btw hi im new

^ Welcome!

Move in day will be… probably not tearful. Mostly because my dad is coming with me, and I just can’t see him crying. But I’ll probably cry a little (secretly, of course. Because I’m a tough girl! …kinda.)

But my mom is already crying at the littlest thing! We went shopping for linens the other day, and she just started sobbing in the middle of the aisle! Haha, I think she’ll be in hysterics by the time I get on the plane.

Actnaturally, you’re not alone. Neatoburrito, yes I’m going to be a day student but my mother…well she’s emotional to say the least and I guarantee she’ll cry. I guess my family takes it all a bit seriously.

Son is on campus all week for an orientation program with other new students. Can’t wait 'til Saturday to get his impressions. Of course, a call or a text would be nice…oh no, I’m starting already lol…

Generally, there will be separation anxiety the first day. Then most schools have a pretty full orientation schedule, designed introduce the new students, have fun and keep very busy. Psychologists will tell you that expectations tend to start at an artificially high level, move within 1-2 months to an artificially low level (expectations not fulfilled) and then settle to a realistic level after about 3 months. This concept seems accurate to me, but the time frames can vary dramatically by individual.

Frequently that hardest time for the kids is after the first 2-3 weeks when novelty wears off and homesickness hits hard., Be careful that they can achieve separation. Daily phone conversations may make it far more difficult for the teen.

And, yes you may well be crying when you drive home.

I got a text!!! And it’s funny but this nine word sentence has made all the difference for me, reaffirming what we both instinctively knew…Our school choice was spot on!!! Then again, I may be on an artificial high. I am experiencing a mild case of the munchies…

i cant imaging myself being homesick
at all…
even if im a weird loner kid with no friends

Haha tennisgeek1. You really can’t imagine yourself being homesick? AT ALL? You’re not going to miss your parents or your bed or your siblings?

Oh man, I know I’m gonna miss my bed!

I don’t think the dorm beds are all that comfortable, ya know, and sleeping on a rock is just going to suck. I’m going to be like pining for my nice, big plush bed back at home

I couldn’t imagine myself being home sick and I really never was. Coming home was always nice and everyone looks foward to it once it starts getting close.

@ Shortstuff879
nope
my bed is uncomfortable, my brother drives me crazy and if i do actually start to miss my mom, I’d just call, but im sure she’s gonna do that for me lol.
BUT im sure there will be times when I’m just sick of school, but that happens at any school, boarding or public, so im thinking its all good

i just showed my mom thins thread.
she cried

*this
10 char

Aww! You beat us, Tenissgeek1, you quite possibly have one of the most emotional mothers. I really like how this is turning into a “Who’s mom is the most emotional” thread, it makes me happy haha.

You wanna know what sucks? I have to be late for my first day of school because of a non-reschedulable orthodontist appointment!!!

@ckdnharvardgirl Im sorry about your non-rescheduable orthodontist appointment. I hate braces.

I am counting down the days till school. My siblings always shoot me dirty looks when I say this but I WANT SCHOOL TO START! NOW! RIGHT THIS INSTANT!

…now that that’s out of my system…my mother cried during the Hannah Montana movie. Kind of sad.

I have a week left! Things have been tough at home, so boarding school is doubly exciting.
