Is he doing research on applying AI in some domain? Or doing basic AI research? Just curious.
Kid 1 - English major. Works for a publishing company editing educational curriculums. Possibly interested in publishing related to YA fiction or maybe tv/film writing in the future.
Kid 2 - major combined Econ/ethics/environmental science. Going to work for MBB and got into a deferred MBA program which would start in 2-3 years. Interest in sustainability and entrepreneurship down the road.
I presume the second kid is graduating this year? How is the consulting market this year? I heard of some slightly delayed starts …
What school, if you don’t mind my asking?
He graduated last month and actually asked for the later start date of January so he could use some of his internship money and travel, learn Italian and some other skills. He doesn’t seem too worried about the consulting market, but then again he’s currently surfing in Morocco for a month with his phone turned off so he doesn’t seem to have the same worries as me.
Kid #1 Music Performance: Working in high end string instrument music store sales, repairs and does most of the social media and advertising design. Also has a private studio of students and performs.
Kid #2 Human Development: finishing her teaching credential and will teach multi subject (elementary/middle school)
Kid #3 Music Performance: still in conservatory but basically supporting himself with music and other work while in school.
All very happy with their choices.
Amherst College.
Very nice!
S1: Environmental Science major (BS), Associate Biologist for an Environmental Consulting Firm
S2: Computer Science major (BS), Senior Cybersecurity Analyst for FAANG company
D1, 2023 grad: Neuroscience major/Econ Minor, Investment Banking Analyst
First person going to IB
IB wasn’t on her radar when she went to college. Post freshman year summer did a life science consulting internship. Evidently that experience knocked consulting out, and she found the IB path during sophomore year.
#1 - BS in Psychology, MS in Education/Couples & Family Therapy program; now works as practicing couples and family therapist
#2 - BS and post-bacc in Accounting, currently preparing for CPA exams and working in public accounting
#3 - current undergrad pursuing dual BS degrees in Accounting and Business Analytics with a minor in Sustainability; will also qualify for CPA exams by graduation and probably will seek public accounting position
Curious if #3 was influenced by #2.
I think there is some influence amongst the siblings in our case.
Me: communication disorders to grad school in speech language pathology to job as speech language pathologist.
Husband: engineering to job in engineering (and I will add…he went to basically an unranked school with a good engineering program and was VP of his company when he retired)
Son: music performance to grad music performance to freelance musician
Daughter: engineering/biology to doctor. (No, she wasn’t a premed intention in undergrad school)
ETA…we all are happy with our choices…and everyone is self supporting.
Nurse practitioner, and speech language pathologist.
@neela1 i did the following AMA on speech language pathology in February. You might find a lot of info there to answer many of your questions. Or you can message me directly.
Thanks. I’ll look it up.
Well my daughter went from costume designer to junior year switched schools for cultural anthropology with polici minor. Just finished her Post Bac for Speech Pathology. Applying to graduate school for next year in the winter. She’s going to take a few months to travel. She wants to do pediatric disorders.
Son is in 2nd year of 4 year educational rotational leadership development for industrial engineering (continuing improvement manager), It’s an international company and he will be in Sweden the next three years.
I am seeing a lot of people’s paths as very non-straight from where they start to where they end. This is interesting. Perhaps except those that enter college with a pre-professional mindset.
