What is your GPA System?

At my school it's...
4.0 = 92+
3.8 = 89
3.4 = 86

I know other schools are so much harsher than mine, so when I see people asking to chance them with a 3.4 and then they are ranked in the top 10%, it's really misleading.

Reg classes:
90-100: 4
80-89: 3
70-79: 2
60-69: 1
AP Classes
90-100: 5
80-89: 4
70-79: 3
60-69: 2

and + don’t matter for us

We have a strange 12 point system. A = 12, A- = 11, B+ = 10, B = 9…

I think you add 3 points to a weighted grade.

Our school, reg classes are A+=4.5, A=4.0, B+=3.5, B=3.0, C=2.0, etc and for Honors/AP classes, you just add one, so A+=5.5,A=5.0, etc. Just about everyone in my school takes all honors like it means something, and because of grade inflation ends up with straight A’s while not having a clue about anything they learned. Oh well…
Edit: not uncommon for someone with a 1400(yes… 3 part) SAT to be top in the top 30 of the class out of 450ish

Regular:
90-100 = 4.0
80-89 = 3.0
70-79 = 2.0
60-69 = 1.0
59- = 0.0

Pre-AP/Honors = add 0.5 to everything
AP = add 1.0 to everything

I wish there was some standardized weighting system for public schools. It would make everything so much easier. Now that I think about it, our grading system is dumb.

A+ = 4.34
A = 4
A- = 3.67
B+ = 3.34
B = 3
B- = 2.67
so on and so forth…
honors and AP, go up 2 “steps” or .67 points.

Too bad there’s massive grade deflation in our school. I figured out that last year I was in about the 8th percentile of my class with a 3.85 weighted GPA. Our school isn’t dumb either, we had the highest SAT scores for a public school in our state a few years back and we constantly get in the top 5 highest SAT scores for our state. Feels bad man…

100-4.0
99-3.9
98-3.8
97-3.7
…

Regular:
90+ = 4
80-89 = 3
70-79 = 2
60-69 = 1
0-59 = 0

Honors/AP:
90+ = 5
80-89 = 4
70-79 = 3
60-69 = 1 (you only get the weighted point if you have at least a C)
0-59 = 0

After seeing people’s different GPA systems, I now understand why everyone cares so much about having an A+. For me, +s and -s don’t matter, so as long as I have a 90+ I’m happy.

You add all your class scores and divide them by the number of classes. After you have your average grade, you look in a chart to see what your GPA is according to your average. They call it the 4.7 system. Its a pain in the ass.

Pre-AP/AP
100 - 6.0
99 - 5.9
98 - 5.8
And on and on like that.

For regular classes:
100 - 5.0
99 - 4.9
98 - 4.8
And on like that.

Non-AP (Including honors)
A= 4
B= 3
C= 2
D= 1
F= 0

AP
A= 5
B= 4
Etc…

Do schools recalculate GPAs to a standard system? Because I don’t see how it’s fair to compare two GPAs that were put on a different scale, especially when some schools weight honors classes.

At my school, CC classes are weighted as heavily as AP, even though CC is a complete joke (and everyone knows it, even the AP teachers!)

Regular / Accelerated classes:
90 - 100 = 6
80 - 89 = 5
70 - 79 = 4
60 - 69 = 3
50 - 59 = 2
and so on…

Honors / Pre-AP / AP
90 - 100 = 7
80 - 90 = 6
70-79 = 5
…

Dude, I’m in the Top 8% as well with a 3.56 GPA…lol…

whoa! Is that weighted or unweighted? My unweighted is like 3.65, which is still low for 8th percentile.

Unweighted. My weighted on a 5 point scale (which my school doesn’t use) is, at least I think, a 3.95. Of course, I did not consistently get a 3.5-3.6 UW GPA every year. I had ~3.4 my freshman and sophomore year and a 4.0 junior year.

My school weights grades on a 100 point scale by multiplying grades like this:

On-Level: Multiplied by 1.02
College-Prep: Multiplied by 1.08
Honors: Multiplied by 1.12
AP: Multiplied by 1.15

My weighted on that scale is 97.701, and our valedictorian’s is like ~107.

@dfree: 8th percentile? Don’t you mean 92nd percentile?

My school is just a 4.0 scale, with no weighting.

94-100 4.0
90-93 3.7
86-89 3.3
83-85 3.0
80-82 2.7

And the rest doesn’t really matter. By the way, this makes it quite easy for several students (out of a class of over 600) to be ranked #1. Some may be taking a large number of AP classes, and some may be taking none–it’s all the same for ranking.

@tizzy yea, sorry I do mean 92nd

@besjbo I would hate it if they didn’t weigh AP and honors classes. They’re harder so why shouldn’t you get the extra grade boost?

Honors/AP:
98-100 6.3
93-97 6.0
90-92 5.7
87-89 5.3
83-86 5.0
etc.

Subtract 1 for standard (standard A=5.0), subtract 2 for “foundations” (foundations A=4.0).

Yeah, we have really wacko grading system. My GPA is like 5.75, which doesn’t mean anything to anyone.
