I'm heading into my Junior year and Northwestern is my first choice thus far. I was just wondering if any acceptees would be willing to display their stats or have any tips on getting in. Thanks.

Northwesterns my first choice so that'd be great if anyone could help

what year are you and what kind of grades, etc. do you get?

i am currently a rising junior, I have taken honors and 3 Ap's and have all A's. UW GPA: 4.0 and W: 5.2, Even though I still have 2 years I think I can maintain good grades. I have 6 AP'S next year and either 4/5 my senior year. I should graduate with about 14 Ap'S.
As far as Sat is concerned, i am planning on taking kaplan this summer and I am planning to take the ACT next year. I just got my results from the Sat II WOrld history and it wasn't so hot 610, so i am kind of worried.
I have excellent ec's with lots of leadership positions:
Speech and Debate: Event Chair and Co Captain, I am a national qualifier a highly ranked member of the National Forensic League, and a lot of other awards.
Boy Scouts: Several Positions (Mandatory) and Eagle
Youth in governement: Youth state Attorney General and next year Youth Governor of SC
National Honor Society, Beta Club: Leadership Positions
Academic Team: capt.

Thanx for helpin' me out

o yea and im ranked 3 or 4 out of 660

I wouldsay for NU you're right on track for an admit. However, be carefful with your courseload. You''re taking a big jump next year with the number of APs... just make sure nothing suffers as a result.

how bad will my sat II's hurt me?

with everything that you have accomplished, why northwestern when some ivies, duke, or unc aren't too far out of your reach?

jeffz26, see my main problem and a problem for a lot of people are sat's. Sat's generally don't serve as an important deciding figure but the problem is, low sat's can keep u out of the schools. In order words, Sat scores dont necessarily help but they do hurt. As far as UNC, its a great school but it definetly isnt as difficult as Northwestern. Duke is probably slightly harder and ivies are close to impossible.

Northwestern only looks at your best SATII's, so the fact you got a 610 on one (and the toughest one) really won't hurt you at all. You could retake world history (thought I wouldn't reccommend it), or could try out new ones that you might do better on. You have plenty of time to take tests, so I wouldn't worry too much. Just prepare and whatnot.

Here's something else that's true: a lot of colleges value the academic record, how many APs you've taken, and the GPA far above the SATs. If you have a 4.0, then you're doing perfect. Keep on getting A's, keep on challenging yourself, and don't ever tell yourself a B in an AP or Honors class is alright. Maybe it is, but generally it isn't worth it. A 4.0uw will take you more places than a 2400.

Keep on working hard, and good luck!

thanx confused_student

Are JeffZ & Nhmeta the same person? JeffZ started the thread, but then Nhmeta posted stats. Whose thread is this? And who said World History is the toughest SAT II?

well, i started it hoping it would attract students who were accepted at Northwestern because i want to know what it takes to get in, but no one really replied to that.
