What kind of Boots/Winter Wear are you bringing for spring?

I'm looking at some UGGs (less feminine type) and upgrading to a larger north face jacket.

Anyone have some good weather apparel recommendations?

if you do get uggs please dont get the cheaper model that has that fuzzy stuff on it...i cant tell you how many ugg boots i've seen all wet and yucky...

ithaca is wet and slick and muddy in the spring...if you're going to get uggs get the leather ones and not the sheepskin...or w/e it is...

yea im liking these

UGG® Australia Beacon Boot (Men) - Cold Weather & Waterproof - Nordstrom

wait are you a guy or a girl?! LOL!

i was assuming girl...havent really noticed guys in ugg boots...although i do like them...not willing to pay that much for them though...

I'm a girl and I've got a pair of really nice, waterproof, leather flatboots. I live in Canada, so it's a bit colder than Ithaca and it holds up pretty nicely.

You can find nicer pairs of waterproof snowboots in Ski and Sport shops that are not overpriced UGGs.
look at landsend.com, great selection

Whatever you do....you want warm, waterproof boots and a good jacket. I coughed up the extra money for a down filled jacket....definitely worth it. Also...make sure the jacket covers your behind...you don't want your bum to freeze!

Does anyone have coat suggestions? I've been using a pretty serious 700 fill down coat but I still get freezing so I definitely need to upgrade before it gets brutal. I'd feel dorky in some kind of arctic thing but I don't want to get frostbite either.

it's not that bad in ithaca, any normal winter jacket should do... and im from nyc so ithaca is slightly colder than where i came from but my nyc jacket is good enough.

I picked up a down-filled parka with a hood...on sale from JC Penney. I absolutely loved it....probably the warmest jacket I've ever had.

Too bad I don't get much use out of it in New Orleans :)

sierratradingpost.com, great discount online store.

Sorel boots, good for -25. Get waterproof not water resistant.

Patagonia for coats - it's designed so nothing gets through - sleeves, hood have extra lining inside.

Jeans and sneakers are very bad in the cold. Silk undershirt and pants as the first layer work very well.

yeah i have a jacket and boots from landsend.com

landsend is comparable to northface

Really, AnbuItachi? I'm from around the city too and my normal coat is definitely not enough. I got a knee length 700+ fill down (warmer than the warmest north face) and I was dying of cold the week before thanksgiving.

Wow, are you guys serious about the cold? I'm from Long Island and down here in LI/NYC it's not nearly as cold as Ithaca sounds (although all the OOSers at NYU can't get over the weather).

I just checked Weather.com and it looks like the weather this week is in the 20's-30's...not too bad, although I imagine the snow gets tiring after a while. I have a normal winter jacket that I've walked around in 15 degree weather without getting cold...would I need something warmer? Is it normally much colder than this?

I'm from Canada, where we regularly experience -20 degrees weather. For leg wear, a pair of jeans is fine as long as it's not skin-tight. Skin-tight jeans, unfortunately which is what I wear, will transfer the cold onto your legs. I tried one day wearing my brother's pair of loose denim jeans and they were very warm.

Yea, i normally wear khakis and sneakers. top i wear t shirt, fleece + my 99$ columbia jacket thats like 1 layer think lol... the only part of me that gets cold is my face cause i dont use scarf /earmuffs and i never use my hood

Polypro is even better. You want to layer to develop pockets of warmth around your body. And hats are a necessity as you can lose a lot of heat through your head. Scarves are also quite helpful. Especially if they look like this:

J.Press : Winter Gear | Scarves | Schoolboy

As long as your under-layers are appropriate, you do not have to wear ugly ski jackets, and a peacoat or overcoat ends up looking much better with your scarf, anyways.

For shoes, I don't think you need to have heavy duty boots, just make sure they are made of solid leather (not suede) and are water-proofed, preferably with Gore-Tex.

Something like this would work fine:

Montgomery Bay Oxford by Timberland at Zeta Zappos

It's definitely colder in Ithaca than downstate. But not any colder than Boston or Chicago. Some Cornell students just complain way too much. Then again, it was 60 degrees yesterday, so maybe global warming is taking its toll.

Also: You will probably be much warmer if you don't wear cotton undershirts during an Ithaca winter. Walking around Cornell's beautiful campus will cause you to sweat. And cotton just soaks up that moisture, refuses to dry, and all of that cold dampness just clings to your skin.

Cotton is very bad. Same with down. If down gets wet, you will be cold. Wool and popypro are great.

Patagonia Women's Primo Down Jacket

Realy warm down + windproof + waterproof. I have the men's version, and I can tell you it is worth the price. This is the most extreme (and best) jacket Patagonia makes.
