what kind of "experience" are we talking about?

I understand that most people need about 5 years of experience before going after an MBA at a top school. I was just wondering, how impressive does this experience have to be? If I can get a good GPA/high GMAT, can I get into HWS with a few years of normal Wall Street experience (analyst/associate work at a top ibank for instance)? Or would I have to do something significantly more impressive like starting my own company?

I just wanted to get a general idea about the kind of credential people need before applying to a top MBA program.
