what kind of jobs do sociology majors usually get?

Sociology seems like a subject that would interest me, but i am wondering what kind of job sociology majors usually get and is there much of a demand for them?

Was interested in this myself, although searching through here I cannot find any answers. It would be greatly appreciated if someone answered this.

bumpyyyyy roadsssss aheaddddd

[Let me google that for you](http://lmgtfy.com/?q=jobs+for+a+sociology+major)

there’s only thousands of articles about what you can do with different majors…

I don’t know exactly what kind of job sociology majors can get (like a social worker or something?), but job market for sociology majors is rather tough, especially in an economy like this. Even if you get one, the pay won’t be that great. I remember reading from article that one of the least lucrative majors is actually sociology.

Btw, hj0519 suggested googling which is fine, but I think searching with those keyboards on websites like Yahoo! Answers will give you more realistic answer.

Haverford sociology major works for NASA. Cool stuff. :)

An alum from my alma mater who majored in sociology taught high school for a few years then won a seat in the U. S. House of Representatives, where he served for a number of years. He left that post a couple years ago and is currently serving on Obama’s cabinet.

My point: With sociology, and as with many of the humanities and social sciences, you can do just about anything from politics to serving hamburgers. There are very few majors that will directly lead to high jobs prospects and high salaries.

If you want to do social work, you can start off as a social services assistant. You could also earn a master’s of social work (MSW) to become a social worker.

In line with the previous post, I can think of one person who is a rep for a medical insurance company, another who is an HR Director, and another who is an Administrative Assistant.

A lot of sociology majors can find themselves in HR positions and such for large companies. They can also take part in the interview process of employees for a company, in order to judge an applicant’s character and determine if they’re “fit” for the job.

There are many various jobs, and not all of them are low-paying.
