Hi, this fall I will be going to Spelman College. I will be in their Dual Degree Engineering Program. This program allows me to get two BA degrees in 5 yrs. A BA in Chemistry and a BA in Chemical Engineering. The way the program is set up is that I will spend 3yrs at Spelman completeing my chemistry degre then I will transfer to an engineering institute and complete the engineering portion. During my time at Spelman I will take a couple of intro classes for the engineering part of the program. What I need help with is deciding if I should get a PC computer or a Mac? I know I have a while until the engineering portion however I rather not have to buy a new computer. I like Macs and rather have one however if it is not best suited for my major I am willing to get a PC. Also what kind of hardware requirements should it have?
- What do you use now?
- Do you use iphone or Android phone?
- What's your. Budget?
- Have use used both operating system before?
I personally have never particularly liked Macs, and I know that there are more engineering programs available/the programs are easier to install on Windows OS. If you prefer Macs then that is perfectly fine and many engineering students use them. Their hardware tends to be good though they may be not all that durable if handled improperly. For college, I bought the Alienware 15 because it has Windows OS along with being a hardware powerhouse. I have little to no interest in using it as a gaming computer, but I wanted something that would last me through college and for the years following. They would be about the same price as a Mac with similar hardware but are more “future-proofed” in many ways.
Right now I have a Mac at home. I don’t currently have a laptop. I have a iphone 6 plus. My budget is around $1500. And yes I have used both operating systems. I just want a laptop that will last me though college
If you want a Mac, get a Mac. If there are high end, OS-specific programs, you’ll probably be using them on school machines instead of yours anyway (because licensing). One of my roommates was a chemE major with a Mac, and it was never an issue.
