I never really watch many classic movies. I put movies like The Hangover, The Other Guys, Rush Hour Series, Pirates of tthe Caribbean, et al. Are these acceptable?

I’m not really sure…I put down a lot of medical dramas and some of the more thought-provoking movies that came out this year like inception…also a documentary or two.

Movies are movies. They don’t have to be historical or “smart.”

Your list is fine.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I will be fine now because I also have many chinese movies that I can put down

I would cut back on the movies and save the space to put more academically oriented showings, like exhibitions in local museums. For movies though, I put down “glory” cuz I love everything history related :D

oh and your chinese? haha chinese/asian pride high five

also I just had some second thoughts about the hangover…i mean like im perfectly fine with it and on the large scale I would say its fine (movies are movies, like Gupi said) but idk…there might be some super conservative admission officer who might raise an eyebrow. no big deal though lol just a consideration

I’d say that’s an acceptable list, but I don’t know if you want to include The Hangover. I mean yeah, it was a hilarious movie and all, but I agree with what collegeftw said, you don’t know what the person looking at your application is like, so you might want to stay away from some of the more controversial things.

it says films, etc. in the past year. does that mean i should just include my favorite new releases? or anything i watched?

^ omg ya’ll are really overthinking this. Just read the instructions again and follow it … write down the films, exhibitions, etc. in the past year (yes, new releases count -.-) that you liked. not that hard -.-

Everyone freaks out about college apps though, so it’s understandable. I think that they just don’t want to list any “older” movies they watched within the past year and come across as someone who is just listing movies they liked. Or maybe I’ve got it wrong too, who knows.

It asks for films, not movies. There is a difference.

actually, no there isnt.

in fact, if you would search “film” in any dictionary, most likely (now im just going out on a limb here), you would find at least one entry that indicates its relativity to a motion picture, or, in other words, a MOVIE.

I mean if you’re being that technical about it, you have to wonder if they even produce “films” anymore? I mean, I’m pretty sure everything is digital these days… but anyway, like collegeftw said earlier, you guys are making this so much more complicated than it really is! I’m kind of doubting that this part of the supplement is going to make or break you, so just put down things that apply to the said question and be done with it.

Be yourself!

You don’t want your list of films to read the way a lot of essays read: as though someone went over it many times with a thesaurus, replacing all the normally used words with intellectual-sounding words. Such essays lose the genuine voice of the writer and are as crinch-worthy as a teenager dressed up to look like a middle manager.

Be real, let yourself show through. It will give the adcoms a sense that the rest of your application is your authentic teenage confident self and not just some kind of packaged formula dressed up to look adult-like.

amen to the person above. lets not become machines in this college process please. i like action movies, so i put action movies haha

How to Train Your Dragon :)

I put the Social Network just to **** them off :D

I put that too haha i loved that movie- why would that **** them off?

Agreed at above, lol: It’s about a guy who dumps Harvard to make billions of dollars. Hardly anger-inducing for Columbia, I’d say…

The Social Network
Sherlock Holmes
Inception
were some.

haha same!
those were 3 of mine as well
