What kind of school do you go to?

~800 student rural public school. 4 APs offered, football team sucks - 0 and 9 for the last 2 seasons. They lost the homecoming game 50 -0. But who cares about football?

Average ACT about 19-20. Maybe 30% go to four-year colleges.

My School is Public, having almost 3,000 Students. It has remained in the Top 30 of Newsweeks High Schools for the past few years. It is a Magnet School, with six academies: Agriscience & Engineering, Business & Finance, Legal & Public Affairs, Leisure Medicine, VPA, and IB.

Our Principal absolutely adores our IB and VPA Programs because they are the most publically recognized, but it is actually the other academies who gain the most awards and honors. The other academies have clubs (Examples: Agriscience- FFA, Business-FBLA) with students who pretty much run them and the events and competitions with very little help from the Teachers.

We have about every AP Class except Latin and Chinese, but they give away Honors Classes like its nothing. A Student usually on minimum takes at least 1 AP Class in the 4 years there. However most of the kids don't go to Top Schools, staying in Florida instead. I believe one kid got into Standford last year and another into Berkley. Our Class Rankings are rigged by Weighted Average, meaning even if your an honors/AP Student you won't even make it to the 10% mark with Straight A's because IB kids are required to take nothing but AP and IB Classes, excluding required math and science whereas the other students usually fall a year behind because we have other prerequisites (PreCal for AP Cal, 11th Grade to take AP Lang, etc).

But otherwise its fun. Our Football teams a joke though.

kinda urban public school of about 2000 students

one of the most diverse you will ever see... 50% black, 40% white, 10% other

about 30% of seniors go on to a 4 year university.. we sent the valdictorian to Cal-Tech last year, and we have a kid at Duke and Vanderbilt... most of the top students go to UNC or NCST though

our test scores are a joke.. we have less than 50% passing rates on every single state mandated test

but, i still enjoy it and wouldnt want to go to any other school.. the AP classes arent that bad (although most are taught by 1st year teachers), but i think it has taught me to take a lot of initiative to teach myself that will help me on the next level

I went to a small public.
We have a lot of people go to really good colleges (my year there were 3 Princeton, 1 Duke, 2 Penn, 1 Columbia, 4 Cornell, 2 Brown).
However, a good portion got in due to legacy/athlete status rather than being brilliant.

Around 800 students in my class. We have the least school spirit out of all the schools around us. It's on the outskirt of austin, tx.

Last week during the homecoming prep rally, people got ****ed at a gay skit the cheerleaders were doing and nearly half the stadium left XD!

Kinda diverse school, half of the students are white 25% mexican 10% black and 15% asian/other

I live in a small town in Tennessee, and I attend a small public high school. I don't think my school is great, but there are a few things of worth. My school is a target school for the No Child Left Behind program and out of my 320+ classmates that entered high school as freshmen, about 250 of us are eligible to graduate. Not sure about how many of us are going on to college. Usually everyone that graduates from here usually go to a school in state. We don't have too many that go anywhere else. As for top schools, we sent a few people to Vanderbilt. My school only offers 3 AP courses: American History, English Literature & Composition, and Calculus AB.

The student body is predominantly white. I'm the only Filipino-American in my class. Personality wise, there's a hodgepodge of truly amazing people and then there's people who I would rather not spend my time with. You'll find that everyone's pretty close here, but tend to have their preferences. Since it is a small town, everyone's very focused on football and basketball, but our football team hasn't had a good season in years. Our golf team is pretty good - they made it to state championships this year. As for extra-curricular activities, you'll find that there's a group of people in each class that do everything. I can't really say that my school is competitive at all.

I try not to think that my school is a lost cause. If you're looking to do well in school and get a good preparation for college, you'll find it.

i would like to think an all-around crap school...but who knows?

Very classical (Swimming and 3 years of Latin are required) 6 year public high school. Best in the state according to Newsweek. You have to take a test to get in, and the administration loves to kick people out in the first two years. It's great in almost every arena, but the modern language program leaves much to be desired. There's not much offered, and it's way too easy. And my English teacher's an alcoholic. Just putting that out there.
Everyone graduates, and almost everyone does so with Honors, since the Honors requirements are set by either the state or the city, not the school. Essentially everyone goes to college. As for the people who don't, last year for example, one joined a prestigious ballet company and the other joined the army. It's a pretty large school, having about 2000 students. Graduating classes usually have about 300. A considerable number go to prestigious colleges.
Our school had the most APs in the nation a few years ago, but we dropped 3 (Both Computer Sciences and German Lang.) so we don't anymore.
It's pretty diverse, but there are no Hispanics, which strikes me as really odd, but maybe there aren't that many around here. We're great at soccer and volleyball, good musical programs. Our football team recently won it's first game in 3 years. Our Quiz Team, on which are last year's Teen Jeopardy champ and yours truly, remains nearly undefeated as always.
Notable alumni: Theda Bara and Charles Manson (who didn't actually graduate, but whatevs)

I don't know why I want to go to a nice college. The first person in my family to go to college was my great-great grandmother. My mother went to Cornell and my father, valedictorian of his high school, went to Tuskegee. People have expected me to go somewhere good since, well, always. I guess I absorbed the idea.

very competitive LARGE Public school.2100 + , 700 in my class
Since we have close ties to SUNY Stony Brook, our science/math program is amazing! Our foreign language department is a joke though.
Not to sound cocky like Praying4Stanford, but my school seems to be "good" at everything, except for football lol. But Lacrosse seems to be our replacement of football, in fact the lacrosse kids are considered godly amongst kids in my school.

+Most Intel Semifinalists nationwide (14!)
+Science Olympiad placed 1st in state and 3rd in nation.
+Basically any AP you can think of, we have. Except for Comp Sci and music theory.
+Lacrosse = Number 1 in Nation
+Fencing= VERY High nationally.
+good drama reputation.
+ Our Regents (NY state exams) had to be curved down 4 points, b/c they were just so bad ass compared to the rest of the state.
+Tennis (team I am on) considered one of best on Long Island. Kids always make states

Overall, the school has a good reputation.
For NYU, my first choice, the acceptance rate from my HS is around 70 %. About 80 kids out of 120 apps.
And I would say ALOT of people, around top 5-10%(70 people), go to respected top 20 institutions.
all the intel ,fencing kids go to Harvard.
Some Lacrosse kids go to Princeton,Tufts. Generally good lax schools

^Huntington?

nahhh Ward Melville
in East Setauket

A public School where paper is rationed, teachers are incompetent, and the flagship of the Northwests largest and wealthiest city public School district.

Tcherrypie-Oops, my bad. I haven't been following LI lax lately, so I don't know who's first right now.

Public school. Nearly all white, very competitive and in the shadow of NASA.

DP

I go to a mid-sized, poor performing public school. Students in the top 5% pretty much never pass AP exams. AP classes are open to ANYONE. There are no requirements. Football is big at my school. Other sports get absolutely no recognition it seems. Most students do not go to college. Of those that do, most go to the nearby community college or state schools. No one ever goes out of state. The teachers are nice though. The top 20 or so students are average and down to earth. The school is very conservative.

Currently, a large (2700) student high school with a thousand sports teams and infinite school spirit. Despite the fact that we lost our HOMECOMING game 57 to 7 or something, haha. The debate team's decent, and I'm in the IB program, which is alright in terms of a challenge, but like the rest of the school, it's not particularly personalized. The students here range from dropouts to honors kids to AP-ers to IB-ers, so we've got a perplexing mix of future presidents and future Joe the Plumbers.

My biggest problem is just that nothing's terribly personalized, especially since electives like creative writing aren't weighted. It makes the curriculum for those who want a challenge pretty boring.

Ward Melville!
I know that school.
You guys are also damn good at Math.

As for Praying4Stanford's comment, I think he was making fun of elitists.

Lol, large (900+ people) in our class, worst reputation in our (fairly good) district, very diverse (I would say 70% black/hispanic/mexican, 23% white, 7% asian), mediocre teachers with some bizarrely hard graders thrown in. Cliquey to the max (the asians the most I think actually [I am one of those though =P]). We basically have super competitive people that would cheat, lie, etc., for a good grade, moderately competitive who are super nosy, laid back, and don't give a crap.

private catholic school in suburban MD right outside DC. 1300 kids
we just rebuilt the school so its brand new and gorgeous

GREAT acedemics. it seems like there is a million AP's. Probably 80% or higher pass rate.
IB program. which is good but personally I find IB to be completely idiotic. I know this from experience as I have taken both IB and AP courses
The high AP test pass rate isnt because I go to a genious school but the smart kids take AP's and lazy just take regular

despite the good acedemics, its deffinately a jock school. LOTS of school spirit. AMAZING football team (ESPN game of the week this fall, on TV for some games). One of our players is the #2 college recruit in the nation. Despite having a good football team, we crush just about every team in our league but one so attendance at the games isnt always fabulous
going to a jock school is a pain in the ass though. Having great sports teams comes at a price. At least for people like me, who are really good at a couple different sports but because of heavy recruiting dont get the chance to play all four years in highschool. I swear the recruit michael jordans...

some teachers are great and others not so much. Administrators care more if your uniform shirt is untucked than about the enormous drug and alcohol problem. In general, its a very comfortable nurturing atmosphere.

kids of ALL kinds at my school. Everyone can find somewhere to fit it. Predominatly white but deffinately alot of diversity, just in smaller concentrations.

very competitive atmosphere, stress is an almost constant feeling.

but I love it :)

ahem. 2000 students. not very competitive.
couple students to top colleges every year.

honors program sucks horribly.
