Is there an app that lets your iMessages show on your PC? I would love that. When I used to have an Android phone I enjoyed it very much, but my iPhone doesn’t coordinate with my PC, that I know of.
I am that annoying person that sends multiple short texts, in a row I try to combine them, but seem to always have one more thought after I just sent one.
I’m not much of texter other than with my CC bestie or answering questions from DH as he wanders the grocery store wondering if we’re out of something. Good luck texting with our son. I think I have texts from high school that are still unanswered. I’m as careful grammatically with texts as with any other writing.
All of the above. I text just about like I type here. I have iMessage on my MacBook so I can use a real keyboard if I am at my computer and texting. I probably do type a little longer when I do that. I hate one giant paragraph, though, so I will put line breaks even if I am sending a longer message.
Like this.
I do use emojis some like this I just sent to my friend who said she was making peach cobbler . She’s a big emoji user.
I too prefer texting or email over phone calls, but I will talk on the phone sometimes. It makes me restless and I do get anxious about making phone calls. One of my kids never calls and the other only calls if she needs something right then (like a ride). My husband occasionally calls if he’s driving or something, but he’d usually rather text.
I have CarPlay in the car and love having Siri take dictation and laughing at all her bad mistakes. She’s hilarious. I’ve seriously gotten some of my best belly laffs from her screw ups. I usually just let them go through to fam and friends so they can laff too.
Even my 82 yr old mother-in-law texts. She will call some, but I think DH has her trained to text more.
I’d rather do a phone call than Zoom, though! We did a few of those during the pandemic. Not my fave. I’ve got a lot of sympathy for D22 who spent most of junior year Zooming.
So happy to be able to text and not call. I am not a fan of phone calls either. I’d rather read information presented succinctly. I send many short tests and try to spell everything correctly but am a terrible typist with fat fingers.
I’m certainly not typing texts with multiple errors but it’s a text, not a research paper - it doesn’t make me any less scholarly that I don’t review and edit every line of text. I’ll save my honed grammar/spelling skills for more meaningful tasks!
I enjoy texting but for actual conversations I love talking on the phone. Can do it for hours and I kept my landline, in part, because it’s easier to talk on that kind of phone and I never lose service. I’ve convinced/converted all my kids to calling me if they need to discuss anything that requires more than a couple texts to sort out.
Complete sentences, proper spelling and punctuation. As long as required, no longer. Emojis only to family, and sparingly. To me, it’s a matter of respect for the recipient.
I received a text yesterday that someone was “ibside the okabt”. A few weeks ago - “looks like taking favs on donuts ptobdly out”.
That’s not effective communication, IMHO. Wasting my time.
I use mostly full sentences (except my 5k run duration reports to my daughter). And some emoji. It’s nice that texting is less interruption than phone calls, easy for folks to respond when handy. There are sometimes though when texting with my sister that we opt to switch to phone call.
No great fan of texting here. I appreciate the usefulness for quick single line or emoticon communication. But for the most part, I’d rather have a conversation that settles matters quickly or is long and ruminative. I am a great fan of settling in with my phone and weeding in the yard or completing something mindless in the house while catching up with someone on the phone. Rather than continuing activity, texting requires a stop and re focus that I find disruptive.
Love texting. Especially the !! For emphasis/ agreement when a thumbs up or heart aren’t appropriate. “My neighbor’s wind chimes are driving me batty” would be a good example of when to use in response . Also love the * as a correction mark. Taught it to my mom to get rid of the ‘I didn’t mean x, I meant y” texts she used to send often.
obligatory not a parent (obviously) but i’m bored LOL.
im on social media a lot and i tend to use slang, uncapitalized words, some emojis, and it depends if i want to use periods or not. i abbreviate things but i can’t handle misspelled words.
I love texting. I’ve often wondered how many fewer friends I would have without it! It’s the way we keep in touch, make plans, and thank each other for a great time after plans—all of which I happily do through text, but the phone would be a hurdle to get over.
Calls are such an interruption to my thoughts and the flow of the day. I enjoy calls to family, but only when the time has been cleared for it—usually on the weekend. For everyone who lives in town, I’d rather text and then meet up.
I send a lot of emojis, photos and stickers. Each of my kids have their own emoji nicknames, and stickers for comforting or celebratory texts.
