Hey guys! So I currently have the chromebook r11, and am interested in investing in a Macbook for college. I’d like to get a laptop this summer before school starts, but I’ve heard rumors that that a new Macbook Air is coming out soon. The Air is the one I plan on getting, but is it worth the wait? Should I really even be waiting for something that I am not sure will be produced? Or should I just take advantage of the deals and time I have now? Thanks as always
Check with your college. Many colleges offer discounts if you purchase a laptop through their offers with certain academic software programs already downloaded. Obviously, they will not have something that hasn’t even come out, but the discount might make a difference in your decision making.
Best Buy has sale on Macbook Air going right now. $650 with student discount.
Rumor sites have been predicting a new MacBook Air for a long time. First it was early 2018, then it was the second quarter of 2018, and now people are saying late 2018. Apple themselves have been pretty silent on the issue, so any predicted dates are just wild speculation.
Personally, if I were going to get a new Mac for college, I’d go with the MacBook Pro. At its widest point (0.68"), the Air is actually thicker than the 13" MacBook Pro (0.59"); the Air is also wider and deeper, and the two laptops weigh about the same (2.96 lbs for the Air; 3.02 lbs for the Pro). But in the Pro, you get a much better screen and a better processor - the processor in the Air is two generations behind the processor in the Pro.
But $650 for a new laptop is a pretty good price, and the Air isn’t a bad choice at that amount.
