What looks better on an application?

I know this is sort of in the wrong section, but I feel like I could receive some answers here

A paid part time job with about 100 service hours or approximately 300 service hours while never having a job? Also this job would be a promotion from a volunteer position to a paid position (I don't know if that makes a difference.)

Nothing “looks better” to colleges more than doing something you love. Would YOU rather do the job or the community service?

To OP, the only thing that matters is what’s important to you. No one can know what goes through the mind of an admissions officer- one may favor the work, and another officer may favor the volunteer activity. We tend to think of an ADCOM as homogeneous in beliefs, when in reality, there are people from very different walks of life.

Ahhhhh well the money seems like it would be really good but I’m afraid of having an inferior EC because my ECs are pretty weak right now. Ill probably take the job if the opportunity arises

If you need the money that’s better and shows you’re less privileged. It helps if it’s a promotion of sorts. Either way it’s fine. Whatever you would like to be doing
