taking an AP test and failing it or not taking the test at all?

There are a lot of reasons not to take a test- maybe you couldn’t afford it, etc. The college won’t care if you’re taking the tests- I could have taken 6 this year but I’m only taking 1 and it doesn’t matter.

If you think you’re going to fail it, then save the money and don’t take it… but this is sort of late and I’m not sure if you can get your money back.

Note: If your high school pays for it, take it. Might as well try it.

My high-school requires that we take the AP exam to get our weighted grade (it is also paid for, so, it is of no cost to us), so I really can’t help you.

I would suggest not taking it and saving yourself the money.

Take the test. And you may get lucky and get a 4 or 5. If you do badly, don’t submit it to any colleges…

as far as admissions go, its not that big a deal if you dont report a bad score.

Failing…

Many kids at my school don’t take the AP test. 84 bucks could buy a lot of things they’ve always wanted and their parents don’t care enough to pay for them.

Failing is a joke. 60% of kids pass the test with some degree of competence and the curve is sometimes just ludicrous. Failing means you haven’t even bothered to give that “night before the test Princeton Review” effort to pass.

Failing…

To colleges? It doesn’t matter. They won’t know if you took the tests, and they don’t get to see your scores until you send the results to them, which you can do after you’ve been admitted. I know they give you the opportunity to send your scores to one college for free when you take the test, but you don’t have to send the score.

Personally, I think not taking it is just stupid if you’ve taken a class for it all year. Taking the class and not taking the exam shows laziness and a lack of motivation.

I would just take it and see what happens. If you really do that poorly on it, you don’t have to report it on your applications.
