Oh, we're not, tamy, we're not. :P

hehehe! good to hear that..wouldnt want to come down to philly in the fall for a disappointed outcome!:P

I chose Penn because of a gut feeling I had while on campus talking to the students and faculty, but because I always feel the need to back up my decisions with sound reasoning, I mapped out three reasons very carefully on graph paper for why I chose Penn: People, Program, Place.

PEOPLE
I like the ED thing, because that means that at least 45% of people at Penn had Penn as their first choice, which really adds to the campus atmosphere. Also, the people in general were more friendly and down to earth than at other schools, it seemed. Penn also seemed more international. I like the idea of a large student body. Obviously, almost all Penn students are very smart, but they seemed socially adept as well. I saw them studying hard during the week, and having fun on weekends, which is how it should be. Penn students seemed to have a lot of spirit, which is awesome.

PROGRAM
I liked Penn's emphasis on practical education. I liked the preprofessionalism and the different undergraduate schools, but I also liked the one university policy and the unity that exists across campus. I felt Penn students were smarter than other students I came across at the other Ivies (no joke. they were also better looking.), and they also seemed street smart--I guess that comes with the West Philly territory. I like the fact that Penn is Ivy, yet it doesn't produce a negative envy-reaction when you tell people where you're going to college (and the less-educated types who think it is Penn State actually like you more when they think you are going to a more mainstream school). I knew at Penn I could get an elite education that would also be useful.

PLACE
The campus was amazing. So classic. You have the old Ivy League type buildings combined with the sixties high rises and West Philly buildings. Locust was amazing, and I selected my housing so that I might have the opportunity to walk on Locust every day to class. I also love Philly--its history, its central location, its atmosphere... Although West Philly was a little sketchy, I felt perfectly safe on campus, and I like the fact that Penn is in a real world environment, as oppose to a place like Palo Alto. Although I hear this "Penn Bubble" pretty much cuts you off from civilization, which is also fine by me at times. The button was also damn cool.

Anyway, long post. Those were just a few of my many reasons for choosing Penn.

I agree, the button is cool. Though I hear underneath it isn't so much...

I have yet to see the aesthetic qualities of the high-rises ;-)

My goal in life is to outlive them. I'm sure some rich donor will come along and build something nice in their place before I die. At least I hope so.

"Thee, when death summons us,
others shall praise;
hail, Pennsylvania!
through endless days.."

(from the alma mater, Hail Pennsylvania)

Thanks for going into so much depth. I actually think your reasons will help me decide whether to apply ED. So Thanks!

i hope i don't regret my decision

I chose penn because I liked the overall feel of the campus. I liked how it merged with the city, but still HAD a campus (unlike NYU) I wanted to do business, and Wharton is a great place for it, and is much better than getting an econ degree at some other school (since its is much diff from business), that is actually why I turned down Princeton to go to penn. The new Wharton building looks really nice btw.
