Wonder what I should go for majoring in if I want to deal with investment banking. My main goal is Columbia in NY, but I'm seeing they don't really have a Business undergrad major, I'd have to do economics. How would that work out? I see NYU has some finance/banking majors, what should I go for in NY city if I want to really get into investment banking? I'm a bit confuse right now, I thought a major in some area of Economics would be best, but I'm not so sure now.

if The Big Apple is what you want.

Well I figure if I want to be dealing with investment, I want to be in the Big Apple. My other choice was business school at UCLA, but I just feel more secure being right next to wall street, near all the great opportunities, internships, and the big-time investors. Am I right?

Seems like NYU is really my best choice, than? And what major? I was thinking Bachelor's in Business/Managerial Economics. Does NYU offer a double-major program?

It is located in Philadelphia.

Hazmat, you're saying I'm better off in Philadelphia, at UPenn?

Hey I am not unbiased for I am at Penn. I know Wharton is #1 and beyond that you can easily look up rankings for undergraduate business programs to help reach your own conclusion.

Wharton if you can make it(highly targeted for ibanking positions etc). NYU if you don't get into wharton(great geographic location, nearby the financial capital of the world, great opportunity to elbow your way in). If you don't get into those schools, any of the ivies such as harvard, columbia, stanford will due just fine.

Pretty much you want to be at an ---Ivy--- in either business or economics. The ivy stamp automatically means that you have the brains for the job.

I'm pretty confident I have a competitive shot at UPenn. I wasn't aware of the business program there at all. I'll make sure to apply there as first, early decision - and then look into NYU. Guess Columbia just stooped down to my third choice.

I guess I'll contact you, hazmat, via PM. Should I be looking at going for a Bachelor's in Banking/Finance at Wharton?

Wharton degree is BS Economics.

Investment banking= Top school and terrific GPA

UPenn Wharton is SUPER selective (harder to get into than all other ivies i think!) I know a few people who applied and got into The College (School of Arts and Sciences), worked their butts off and transferred over to Wharton. Some loophole in the system maybe lol :P
