I want to major in computer science but it is very crazy impacted in most schools in CA and requires a higher gpa than average ppl who do get in to the school. I am actaully fine withe engineering majors like EE or CE. i like both hardware and software. but the main problem is i want to get into college. So what major should i decide to apply for? i have a 3.0 gpa which is like the tip of most UC and high CSU..

You shouldn’t decide on your major based on what you can get into but what you want to do for most of your life.

According to http://www.calstate.edu/sas/publications/documents/impactedprogramsmatrix.pdf , CS is impacted at the following CSUs: Fullerton, Long Beach, Pomona, San Diego, San Jose, San Luis Obispo.

CSUs that do not have major impaction for CS (but may have campus impaction) include: Chico, Dominguez Hills, Los Angeles, Northridge, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Francisco. Dominguez Hills is not campus impacted, so you should be admitted with just baseline CSU eligibility.

San Jose and San Luis Obispo also have a software engineering major that is rather similar to the CS major.

Last season’s admission thresholds at San Jose are shown here: [Info.sjsu.edu[/url]

Another option is to start at a community college, do well there, and then transfer to a UC or CSU (if you do well at a community college, you may have more choices than you do for frosh admission). If you go this route, use http://www.assist.org](http://info.sjsu.edu/static/admission/impaction.html) to check course applicability.
