What major?

Hello College Confidential!

I want to be a lawyer. I know this is exactly what I want to be. For college, I want to know what major(s) would be best suited for a student looking to go into big-law litigation. Also, I have some questions about law school. Do law schools take into account high school GPAs? Do law schools "care" what you major in, or just LSAT scores and college GPAs?

I also like engineering. I know that a patent lawyer is a combination of both Law and Engineering, so I am interested about this field. If anyone is or knows a patent lawyer, could you tell me what your day at work is like?

If the people of CC could be so kind as to just answer my questions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I am a lawyer, and a graduate of Georgetown Law School.

Law schools do not look at your high school record.

That part of your life is over at that point.

In my opinion, they don’t care what you major in either, but I would say that you would want to study some political science and american history. You need to know something about the American system of government prior to entering law school.

You should be aware that there is a vast oversupply of lawyers out there.

However, if you became a patent lawyer, that would make you FAR more marketable.

Thank you so much, your input is appreciated!

Do you happen to know anything about the Patent law field, floridadad55?
