I know it’s been awhile since I’ve taken it, but I seem to remember more than 1 person each year getting a perfect score…either way, it’s probably best to be a little clearer on your application what you mean by 2nd place (2nd in your school/region? In the 2nd highest group of scores in the country? Only 1 person scored higher?) when listing something that the admissions committees will be very familiar with like the AMC, AIME, or USAMO so they don’t feel you’re stretching the truth or trying to mislead them.</p>

<p>You should also keep in mind that there’s only so much, and ultimately, the decision and even a portion of your application is out of your control.</p>
