Doesn’t everyone keep $500,000 in their jacket pockets and have gold bars hidden around the house? And the excuse is “I’m old-fashioned”. Just how dumb does he think people are?

In our local news: Our electric company chose people to enroll in a paperless billing trial. If they clicked on the email to open it & see what it was about, they were automatically enrolled in paperless billing for the trial period. Apparently, they needed to read through the whole email to find this out & to see that they had to click on an “opt out” link to avoid being enrolled. Open the email & you’re enrolled, whether or not you want to be. Stop reading the email because it’s about paperless billing, which doesn’t interest you, and you’ll end up without a bill in the mail … leading busy folks who aren’t paying attention to miss payments, rack up late fees, get reported to credit agencies … that’s absolutely crazy.
Many years ago, some other company tried an “opt-in” if you don’t respond tactic. Might have been a telephone company. It was found to be illegal .
