What next?

Was finally successful in using the MyZou system to check son's application status.

Under application status, it said:

"This application status is admitted."

Does this mean son is admitted?

If so, what do we do next?

Is there a scholarship application form?

Is there an honors college application form?

Want to make sure we don't miss any deadlines.

Hi there!

So did your son definately decide on Mizzou? I know he was looking at several schools. Congratulations on the acceptance.

Yep - That is what my daughter’s said. There were two sections in the MyZou under Student Admissions.

1 - Accept Admissions (I don’t think this showed up until she was in the system as accepted. There you need to click on I accept admission to Mizzou (or something like that). Once you accept admissions, then you always see the following note:

" Your application status does not allow you to Accept or Decline admissions at this time. This is either because you have not been admitted yet, you were admitted and have already accepted admission online, or you have previously declined admission. If you previously accepted admission online, but did not pay your enrollment fee at that time, go to enrollmentfee.missouri.edu if you wish to pay it now. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact the Office of Admissions by phone at (573) 882-7786 or 1-800-225-6075 (toll free in Missouri, Illinois and Kansas) or by email at MU4U@missouri.edu . "

2- Application Status - Here is where we first learned she had been admited (besides seeing the new link that said “accept admissions” - and then we sort of knew what it was going to say when we clicked on this link). It said: This Application Status is Admitted

Under that it said “Pay my enrollement fee” with a link. Originally this section still had some outstanding items listed, but after a few weeks those boxes went away. Now if I click on “to do list” it shows “In progress Items” - Transcript (I’m assuming it will show this until we send the final Senior year Transcript in the summer), “Completed Items” - ACT/SAT Prep Scores & 2010-2011 Freshman Sch App Web). I think I read that as long as you start the application before December 1 that it shows up as completed. We still have to complete some items including the essay.

The scholarship application form is due by 12/1/09. You can find the link here:

My daughter found out that she was accepted online on 9/24/09, got the acceptance letter from the college on 10/2/09 and got the letter from the School of Journalism this week on 10/13/09. The letter from the School of Journalism congratulated her, told about the school of Journalism and reminded her to pay the enrollment fee early because this gives you priority for housing based on when you pay. It also went over the requirements for the MAC computers and the new requirment for the Ipod Touch or equivelent device.

As far as deadlines go. The first is to accept, pay the enrollment fee ($150) and then get the scholarship application in.

It sounds like we will receive information by mail and housing information will start to come out in February. Also don’t forget that the forms for federal financial aid will start to go online in December and you should expect to try to get them in by March 1st.

Also, once he accepts he will get his University E-mail.

It looks like we’ve got the number two scenario.

Is the enrollment fee refundable? I’m guessing not.

Will we get a letter as well?

Thanks so much for the links. We will get working on the scholarship and honors apps.

Good to know that there are OOS students attending Mizzou. We are looking at all OOS schools, except Tulane, and are looking for a school that has a diverse geographic population. I know this is hard to find at a state school, but it seems that Mizzou has such national recognition for its journalism program, that he’ll be able to meet people from all over.

That technology stuff you mentioned is really neat. So, they use MACs and Ipod touches. Awesome!

You will get the letter.

The enrollment fee is refundable up until May 1.

In my D’s opinion the university doesn’t have a diversity at all, but I looked at the list of Walters Williams Scholars this year and the students are from Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Tennessee, Texas, Minnesota, Maryland, Pennsylvania, California, Washington, Georgia, Nebraska, Arizona, and Iowa states.
D. is a product of California where 80% of students are bilingual and travel to China, Japan, Korea, Russia, Israel, France and so on regular basis to visit their relatives, so it depends what you mean by diversity :-)

We got the letter today.

So we should pay the enrollment fee, so he can sign up for housing, and if he visits and doesn’t want to go, we can get the enrollment fee refunded?

We’re hoping he’ll see Mizzou and love it. Is there an Accepted Students Day?

Son was so thrilled to get the acceptance. He’s been accepted to most of his southern schools, and gotten some amazing scholarship offers, but his first choice is to go to school in the midwest, and we’re hoping Mizzou will be affordable enough that we can make it work.

Thanks for all your help.

So I guess scholarship and honors applications are next? What are the deadlines? Are there any teacher/counselor recommendations required for any of those? With deadlines coming up, they want us to give them a month’s notice, since they’re getting backed up.

Sorry for all the questions. Spoke too soon. Son gave me the envelope, which looks like has a lot of info. I’ll ask again if I need any help. Will send in the enrollment fee ASAP.

Is it better to mail in the enrollment fee or send it via the internet?

I just sent mine via the online page - if you choose to do so, you’ll have two payment options: Credit Card and e-Check. There’s actually a significant processing fee tacked on if you use a Credit Card, but it’s completely free processing if you do it by e-Check, so if you’re sending it online, e-Check would be best. But I don’t think there’s really any difference in benefit between mailing it in and doing it online.

We also paid by e-check because of the fee to pay by credit card. The links above for the scholarship and honors colleges should give you the deadlines. I know the scholarship one has to be completed by 12/1/09. Also, you won’t get to sign up for housing till around Feb or March. By paying the enrollment fee you get priority when the time comes. Not 100% sure what that means exactly, but I’m assuming its better to pay it early. My understanding was it was refundable.

The #1 & #2 above will both show when you get accepted. Make sure he goes in online and accepts.

“Not 100% sure what that means exactly,”

It means that you can choose a dorm room a day or two earlier that the rest of the students.

Thanks - Tori_mom! That’s good, at the moment she is leaning towards College Ave to be in one of the FIG’s for Journalism and Communication.
