We've all seen lists about what to bring to college, but how about what not to bring?

Have any of you brought something or know someone who brought something really dumb? Did any of the things on your packing list end up being totally useless?

a coffee maker is totally useless. I'm kind of a coffee person so I ended up bringing one, but it smells up the entire dorm and is generally just irritating if someone is sleeping.

If you have a meal plan or food points or something you can just go buy a coffee...it's easier.

I brought way too much stuff with me - a lot of it ended up going home at fall break. For instance, if you have clothes you don't really wear or stuff you don't really use at home, you probably won't wear or use them at school...

For me it was my desk lamp. I've never used a lot of light at home; I'm not sure why I really thought I'd use it at school. Plus in my dorm building (not true of all dorms on campus, but in mine it is), the desks have built in lights. I've used that maybe 5 times, and only use my desk lamp for holding stuff (it's one of the ones from Bed Bath and Beyond with the organizer spaces).

^^ That might just be the understatement of the century. I was raised in a house where the heat gets turned down to 60 at night. We have the heater in our room on the lowest setting possible, and I still sleep without a comforter, now that the room has been rearranged. My bed used to be far from the heater. Then I slept comfortably with all my covers. Now it's about 6 inches from the end of the heater, and I only need my flannel sheets and blanket.
So flannel sheets might be another thing that I didn't really need

ket, some people have to iron because of the programs they're in. However, most of us just get our laundry as soon as it's done in the drier, and quick fold it before the wrinkles get too bad.
If you do have to iron, an ironing board is not necessary. Spread a towel on a dresser, desk, or even the floor (just some flat surface that's not going anywhere). You've got yourself an ironing board.

Do college students even iron their clothes? XD

(And if so....how? o_o)

hahaha that made me laugh (especially the 2nd part)... I've never used an iron in my life. =P If you need to, I'm sure you can find someone in the dorm who would be willing to iron a dress shirt or pants or whatever for you for free (or small charge). As someone mentioned, I hang any nice clothes I have right after they finish in the dryer.

Regarding blankets and whatnot... in my room, the dial to change what temperature the air comes out of the heater/AC doesn't work, so when it's set to AC, it makes the room like 60, and the heat blows it makes the room like 80+... so we have to regulate with the windows =P

don't bring too many clothes/shoes/accessories...must agree completely that if you didn't use them at home, you probably won't in college

i also brought a ton of my favorite books just in case i got bored...didn't touch any of them! there's barely any time to get bored at college, not to mention you can get juswt about any book you want at the library/bookstore
