Okay first of all this is for my virtual class in school, I am required to chose one class I could take for the rest of the semester (each class takes about 30 weeks to complete) At first I was confident I was going to take Geometry, but now I’m not so sure because my parents didn’t recommend it because I’m already struggling in Algebra 1 right now, I just wanted to take it because so I would be in AP Calculus my senior year…
My teacher informed me I could drop the class if I wanted to but I’m already stuck choosing! I kinda want to take a foreign language, like French 1. Or just like an AP class, but I’m confused, I don’t know if I should still take Geometry or just take it later in the summer or just chill and take it as my math class sophomore year! Can someone help?
I’d recommend Geometry. It’s a fairly easy course, and IME you only need to know basic algebra.
I would not recommend taking a foreign language course online. It’s extremely difficult when you can’t hear or speak the language while learning it. Also, in my experience, the course seems to focus more on the vocab than grammar.
As long as you’re taking another language already, you don’t need to take French. As someone who is also bad at math, I wouldn’t take geometry either. If you’re struggling already, it would probably be better to have a teacher who could directly help you.
What AP classes are available to you online? I think taking a social studies one would be best for a sophomore.
What level foreign language have you reached already?
What’s your current schedule?
Since you’re struggling with Algebra1, you should take your math classes in school.
You don’t need calculus, even for top universities - as long as your foundations are strong and you can get to Precalculus or Precalculus Honors, you’re good to go.
What about Health and Physical Education? That’s an easy class to take “online” (you get an electronic wristband and it registers that you exercized for 30mn each day).
I’m already fluent in Spanish. So could this possibly give me an edge?
If you’re fluent in Spanish, did you take a Subject Test or an AP test to “prove” it?
