Should I take Algebra 2 or Geometry for summer

The title isn't the only question...

I'm a freshmen and I'm currently in Algebra I. I want to do something called a ''test-out'' in my school where you take a class in the summer for 1-2 months. If you pass with at least an 80%, the class counts as credit and you move on to a higher class. I'm planning on taking pre-calculus for my sophomore year. So which would be more suitable for me? (I want to work in the business field, if that matters).

Next question:
I'm currently in Spanish 1 and want to take another language course for my sophomore year. My top choices are Spanish 2 and Mandarin 1. I thought Spanish 2 would be good since I already have Spanish 1, but I'm more interested in the Chinese culture and Mandarin seems to be more of a rare offer.

Last question:
I want to take Honors Biology next year, how do I take an Honors class? What do I have to do to qualify for an Honors class? Also, how hard is American Lit (required class for sophomore year) and Precalculus?

A lot of your questions are specific to your school so you need to ask them.

1) I’m confused about the fact that you’re in Algebra I and want to take either Algebra II or Geometry this summer and then go straight on to Pre-Calculus.

2) Is there any way you can carry on with Spanish and taking Mandarin as an elective?

3) This depends on your school. Ask!

1) I had to retype a lot of this because this website deleted everything… In my school, if you pass a class in summer, you move on to a higher-leveled course. So in this case, if I take Alg 2 or Geometry and pass, I move on to the next level; Pre-calculus.

But you’re right… I should just explain this to my school. Thanks.

I am currently taking

Journalism II Honors

Journalism I Honors

English II Honors

Adv Reading

Biology Honors

AP World History

Geometry Honors

For math you take algebra 8th or 9th sometimes 7 or 6 grade

then geometry
then algebra II if you don’t fail an eoc then pre cal or trig then cal and then statics i’m going to take algebra II online this year i took spanish II for my freshman year currently a sophmore taking spanish III Honors gl

Don`t you need both before Pre-Calc? At my school it goes in this order, whether you take it over the summer or not: Alg. 1, Geometry, Alg. 2, Pre-Calc.

1) If you want to be in Pre-Calculus next year, you would need both Geometry and Algebra II - not just one or the other. In my opinion, you are trying to make too much of a gap. You are trying to learn in 1 year what takes most people 3 whole years. I would very much recommend taking it a lot slower - chances are you are NOT going to retain a lot of the information you learn, ESPECIALLY considering you’re just starting high school math this year.

You have a couple options of what you can do. You can take both Geometry and Algebra 2 for your sophomore year, and then you can take Pre-Calculus your junior year. Or you could take Geometry over the summer and take just Algbera 2 next year, leaving you with Pre-Calculus your junior year. Either way, I would highly recommend at least waiting until junior year before you jump into Pre-Calculus.

2) I would go with Spanish, personally, but if you’re really into Chinese, nobody’s stopping you from taking it.

3) It depends on the school. My school is open-enrollment, and you simply need to sign up for honors and you can take it. Other schools you have to meet certain academic requirements. Ask your guidance counselor to find out more.

If anything what you need to do is take geometry over the summer after freshman year, take Alg II sophomore year, Precalc over the summer, and from there idk what your plans are but I recommend Calc AB.

Definitely take Algebra 2 next year. A solid algebra foundation is critical to success in precalc, calculus, and beyond. Geometry can be taken either concurrently w/Alg 2, the summer before Alg 2, or the summer after Alg 2. You can still take precalc junior year. There is very little advantage in rushing through the math sequence. Math builds, so you need what you learned from algebra for precalc, what you learn from precalc for calc, etc., etc.

Hey guys, can’t believe it’s been 7 months already. I just noticed I was extremely vague here. So the result was that my summer Geometry plans didn’t work out due to me having to teach autistic people during that summer. Now I’m taking Geometry as a sophomore. I’m planning on taking Algebra 2 next summer though so that I could take Precalc for junior year. Will it be tough grasping Algebra 2 concepts in 1 month? I am good at the basic Algebra concepts.

Geometry is useless these people don’t know what their talking about take Alg 2
