What kind of jobs, extra-curriculars, internships, etc? I appreciate the advice.

I’m not exactly sure what grade you’re in and whether or not you’ve applied, but I’ll just give some information.
They have the Honors Program in Medical Education, which you have to directly apply to. I believe you request an application by December, and then you apply to Northwestern regular decision. If you are accepted into HPME, you gain acceptance to the Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, so after you are done with undergrad/pre-reqs, you don’t have to stress about applying to med schools. You design your own curriculum, and have access to global health and research opportunities. It’s pretty difficult to get into though. If you are interested go to this link:

That^

Aside of HPME, all you can look forward to is severe grade deflation and orgo x(

NU isn’t grade deflated.

There is also a program where NU undergrads in their junior year can be pre-admitted to the medical school. Several of my friends have used this.

arbiter do elaborate! thx

Yes thank you. I know about HPME and I’ve already been accepted. If you are pre-med, what kinds of activities/jobs do you partake in?

and yes arbiter i would love to hear more!!

^ You got accepted into HPME already? Hmm…

SORRY. No… sorry sorry sorry. I’ve already been accepted to Northwestern. Wow. Not HPME. Oops I phrased it wrong.

There is a pre med club there. DS did go to a few talks and did some things with them early in his college years. Not sure how strong of a club it is. When he was a Jr, he was able to sign up for a shadowing/mentoring program at NU hospital. He went weekly for several weeks and saw quite a bit. He was also a hospital volunteer at the downtown hospital -also went there weekly his last 2 years of school. He just took the shuttle van from the Evanston campus to downtown and got dropped off right by the hospital.

Never heard of any internships but they may exist (I just don’t know about them). If you want to do research, there are always professors looking for free labor and DS did work in one lab for over a year. When you are a junior, you can apply to be a science mentor and run weekly science study sessions for freshman bio, chem, orgo, etc… It is a non credit course that you have to take each semester though. So you attend classes on how to mentor and then also run your study session.

There are opportunities there. You have to be active though and look for them and sign up for them. No one is just going to drop them in your lap because you are pre-med. Make sure you take advantage of other clubs/groups at NU too, not just ones geared towards medicine. During DS med school interviews, he was asked quite often about his club sports, mentoring, etc… Keep yourself well rounded - med schools like that.
