What other schools did you get into?
And/or which schools are you turning down to go to UCR?

uc santacruz, uc merced, cal state fullerton, cal state la, cal state long beach

Oh and list your major too!

Turning down , UCSC, CSUN, CSULA, CSULB, San Fran state- I thought about going to san francisco since as a QA tester I can find work in San Fran . But the whole point of school is to do something different .

Poli Sci major

I got into UCSC, UC Merced, UoP, and Hofstra.

I turned down: UCLA, UCSD and Cal. But I have high hopes that UCR is worth the sacrifice! :)

Debbie cakes you are a major ■■■■■, unless you have proof you got into those colleges please don’t boast about them because obviously you chose a 3rd rate college over 1st rate at the same prices so don’t lie.

whiteforce - wow. you’re the ■■■■■. for some majors, ucr is better than those three schools. there are dozens of reasons she could’ve chose UCR. I know plenty of people who rejected schools with “better” names for UCR. For example, my honors peer mentor turned down purdue for UCR. reasons besides UCR being better for a particular major (for example, UCR has the TOP entomology program in the whole country) include money and location. UCR gave me more money than any other UC was going to give me. And some people want to stay closer to home if they live in the IE. don’t talk **** about people you don’t even know.

Some people chose UCR over better UC schools for financial reason. Also, for pre-med students, they chose UCR because it is less competitive to get into a med school than say, UCLA or UCI.

Whitefore, there are several other reasons why people chose UCR over other schools. Just because a person got accepted to a best school possible doesn’t mean the person has to go to that school. Choosing a college should be based on person’s preference.

I got into UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and USC and I’m going to UCR. Like x8equalsDtilde and linoch said, UCR is much closer to me (about a 20 minute drive) and was the only college that offered me any money. Also, I went into college at 16 years old and my parents wanted me close to home because of my age.

@Whiteforce: I’m not a ■■■■■. I’m just proving that UCR is at that level where it now attracts students that aren’t just going there because it was the only school they got into (which is not a bad thing at all!). I had read some posts in this forum before where everyone was despairing about what kind of school UCR makes in comparison to others and I wanted to prove a point. To give stats on my transfer I am a linguistics major with a GPA of 3.89. I completed the honors program a community college. I chose Riverside because I wanted to use the Thomas Haider Program as a stepping stone into medical school. It is an incredible advantage as opposed to attending UCSD/UCLA/Cal and getting a GPA <3.5 and possibly burning out - THEN applying to be 1/5000 for 1/120 spots. I encourage all pre-meds to check out what UCR is doing to get their grads into the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine btw!

And besides, I really have nothing to gain by anonymously stating that I got into other schools. Am I trying to make other people feel bad for my own sake? It would really be my own loss if I felt that I should have gone to another school.

@debbiecakes
I think UCR is going to stop the Thomas Haider Program since they’re going to have their own med school by 2013.

Yeah they’re going to stop the Thomas Haider Program once the UCR School of Medicine gets its accreditation. Unfortunately, it won’t until it can raise enough money - so it won’t be til 2013 or after. But in the meantime, they said the Thomas Haider Program will stay in place.
